jeffeosso470 AR brief range report
Just ran out to the range with "powderpuff" 500gr XLC loads, about 2150fps.... just to match the 470 NE as a plinking load.
it was hotter than a 2 dollar .... pistol today, and it took forever for the barrel to cool.
3shot groups, at 100 with a leupold 1.5x5 ...
averaged about 1.2 or so... just goofing around, and having to answer the ineveitable "what are YOU shooting" questions between groups.
based off my experience, that means with a fine cross haired 3x9, it's a submoa gun...
sorry, no pics... the bottom flew out of the sky just as I was finishing up

MJinesJeffe, I thought about you after I got home and heavens opened up. Had to be a bit messy at the dirt range.
Congrats on the AR performance.

Gringo CazadorJeffe,
Where did you shoot, figured it was to muddy for most of the ranges and it was hot and humid today.
Have you shot any RL powder in the 470.

jeffeossoBilly,
like Mike said, i was down at the "dirt range" or thunder range, on 1314... when it first opened, that's the "combo" range I was telling you about..
High powered rifle range...
COMBO
with a working sand pit, ISYN....
first time I went, when I was working on my mexican mauser steyr, i STG in my right eye I had a target, in my left a handhat... sitting on a guys's head running a sandhog.
Mike,
it would have been a swim in the rio grande, today... both would be a river of knee deep slurry.
Billy,
HOT? wasn't that hot, but the humidity was so high I had to keep the barrel hot to keep condensation off it!! let it cool for just 15 mins and it would start dripping.... figured some builder inspector was going to pull my permit as I aint go no drip pan.
366,
xlc's shoot okay, if you pull them back at least .065.
No RL yet... just banging away with my plinkers

boom stickglad somebody got to the range

question, would the same load be good for tsx's?
could this be your new hog round?

jeffeossoBoom,
this is a plinker... but just as sure as a 470 NE will end a discussion with a hippo, these will handle pigs...
probably also a good load for TSXs.. little recoil, plenty accurate.
Need to load up some of those "hollowpoints with some copper around them" you sent.

they could be your "charging rabbit" load

make sure you brain them or they will keep charging.
i am so curious to see how fast they will fly

vapodogI dispatched a (possibly rabid) squirrel today.
It run up a tree about three feet and then fell to the earth...again up the tree and stumble a bit and again fall to the base.
After seeing this several times I got out the 350 grain woodleighs in the 404 Jeff and ended this squirrels lease.
Your 470 AR might not have been enough!!!!!
