I just purchased a new SS Hawkeye Alaskan in 416 Ruger, from Gunbroker. Perhaps the first one available to the market?? I can't wait to get it so I could shoot it and the 375 Ruger Alaskan I have had for 6 months and not shot yet. They feel great in the hands. I may opt to get a nice chunk of wood for the 416 though.

I won't know for sure until I get it, as there are no pics or data on the 416 Ruger yet. I am figuring that it is the exact same platform as the 375 Ruger...with just a bigger hole in the barrel. The scale of economies for any company would indicate that in order to maximize profits. However, 8lbs is a bit light for this power level...unless your Safarikid.

Was this one of the listings from Sportsmans Safari? I have an email into them to see if they are available, or just on order and have a scheduled delivery. Be interested to see what your thoughts are to it on arrival.

Jeffeosso made the 500 AR on the M77 MarkII and that is a fun gun!!! shooting 500 jeffery loads off the bench in a 9lb rig was fun but standing up would be no prob. The 416 Ruger will be a great cart rig combo imho
Yes, it is from Sportsman Safari and I did not see anything to lead me to believe they are not available immediately. They do have another one listed on GB. I just bought a new Leupold 1.75x6 matte heavy duplex scope for it yesterday. I need to get another one for my 375 Ruger Alaskan to keep them the same.

They must have gotten only two in; they emailed back and said they had one left. I'm seriously considering it as a companion to my 450-400, to take to Zim this summer.
You'll love that Leupold 1.75x6 on it, and it will let you reach out there at 200+ yards if you need to. My buddy put the same one on his 375 Ruger Alaskan and loves it.
Good luck with it, and let us know if it is a shooter.

Rich has a very good point and I agree that the 375 would be a better choice with the 450/400 for a two rifle battery. That said, can you have too many guns, regardless the caliber/power level? No such thing!

Thanks for the comments and concerns, guys. It's appreciated. Actually, I'm considering it a one-rifle battery, two times over. I would want to test the new Hornady DGS and DGX on some big stuff, from both guns. Maybe add a buff cow? I've got a box of the .4095 Barnes Banded Solids for the 450-400 I want to try also.
My last two trips for leopard and PG I shot 40+ animals in 30 days, and really don't have much I want to add to it. Have plenty of rugs, backskins, and mounts - the life size leopard, eland, and waterbuck are being worked now. Rooms are filling up fast.
I am hunting a buff and tuskless, and maybe a bushbuck and hyena only. My hunting partner is only taking his 375 H&H for a buff/PG hunt, and either of these rifles can be a legal substitute for him, if problems arise.
