333_OKHBig Bore Challenge
What 40+ caliber big bore will fit into the MRC SA with an overall case length maximum of 3.125"?

MacifejM203 tracer round.....who knows. Say 3x3 how hard is it to get Sasquatch tags this late in the season? I am a Communifornia residente if that helps. Have you seen any tracks yet this year waaaaay up there in your neck of the woods?

RIP300WSM necked up to .475 with bullet seated long to fill that short box.
Better get an O.K. from Rick Jamison on that one.

Rodney H.{500Jeffery}10.57 Maverick might be an option. R.

MacifejA couple hundred different ones other than ones you could invent yourself. 50 Alaskan comes to mind.

333_OKHnow you guys are worrying me. Is there a 458 American without a belt?
Mac---seriously!!! It is a rimmed cartridge...too big of a rim!

boom stick458 win mag with 45-70 bullets
458 wsm with long loaded 458 bullets

Macifej3x3....what is the intended target. If we know this we can be more serious in our assistance. Now what about that BigFoot permit for this fall?

Macifej10.75mm x 68mm Mauser is about 1/16 too long unless you load short or open the magazine a tad.

I cannot wait until your camping trip to our area. Bigfoot prefers Deliverance style punishment for non-believers...only he does not get the arrow in the end, only you.
P.S. Its 333 !!! Its the caliber of a rifle I own not the size of antlers you wish you had shot.
LETS ALL PRETEND THIS THREAD NEVER HAPPENED AND LETS LET IT DIE, OR I NEED TO HIT THE JACKIE D TONIGHT.

MacifejHA! So you have seen a BigFoot! I knew it! What's your approximate location triple three? Can you bait them with doughnuts like a pig or do they prefer human sacrifice?

333_OKHHEY, I LIKE THIS IGNAORE LIST STUFF!

ScottSNot too many. The only commercially available ones I can think of is the 450 Marlin, 458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster, & 50 Beowulf (if you really want to consider any of them as big bores).
You will most likely need to 'cat your own.

what potential does this has against animals bigger than big bears and moose,,,,,,say water buffalo???
11 September 2007, 15:59
jeffeosso376 steyr and it's 416 wildcat
i did a 458 winmag on a mexican mauser, limited to 405's max bullet weight
416 mann (xWSM)
458 noveske (xwsm)
450 marlin is a "hot loaded" 45/70.. all the rest of just 45/70 ballistics in pistolrounds

ScottSWhile I MIGHT consider the 450 Marlin for a CLOSE RANGE moose gun I certainly would not use any of them for brownies!!
None of these pipsqueaks are good buffalo medicine.
As Jeff posted your best bet is a WSM based wildcat, in 416 or 458 flavor.
Not sure what your rifles bolt diameter is but you could get by with a 416 Rigby cut down to 2 inches and then you could stuff up to a 0.51" diameter bullet into your 'cat. Accoring to my calculations, such a case would have a capacity around 95gr of water, and be able to propel a 0.510" diameter 535gr Woodleigh to nearly 2100 fps with a chamber pressure of ~ 64 ksi out of a 22" barrel. That is adequate for buffalo.
EDIT----------
A little more detail work is listed below. If you are using Woodleighs you can length the case slightly as opposed to what I whipped up above.
The case I modeled utilized the following dimensions:
Case head: 0.589"
Shoulder OD: 0.575"
Case Length: 2.07" (works for up to 535 Woodleigh and 2.85" magazine)
Neck Length: 0.400"
Shoulder angle: 30 deg
Bullet diameter: 0.510"
Case capacity: 99 -100 gr of H2O
Useable case capacity with 535 gr Woodleigh SN seated to cannelure: 74 - 75 gr H2O
Muzzle velocity achievable with 535gr Woodleigh SN @ MAP of 64 ksi: 2100 to 2160 fps range from 22" barrel.
Using a 450gr Woodleigh you can get up to 2250 to 2300 fps out of the 22" tube and keep MAP to 64 ksi.
Should suffice for buffalo.
DISCLAIMER-------
Muzzle velocities are the result of computer simulations and actual results may differ.
