How many rounds does a .585 nyati take? is it 3?
2 down and one up?
how about the .600 OK?
I know that it depends on what action the rifle have.. but it cant be a big difference in that large calibers?
How about the .458 Lott? and the different .500 calibers??
I think that it is important when hunting dangerous game that you can have as many rounds as possible..

Well, you know, that REALLY depends on what action you build on, and what magazine you choose.

The Heym Express is KING.
4+1 .500 Jeffery, 7+1 .375 H&H. Eeker They even make them in .600 NE.

And this is without Rigby style magazine. Eeker

Cheers,

André

Hallelujah!!!

Overkill is back!!!

I believe OK was the inspiration for the naming of RGB's 600 Overkill.

Now let's see if the cumulative membership of "sumbuddy who know" can answer the question!!!

OK, my 2 cents, FWIW:

Most CZ 550's in .375 H&H will hold 6 cartridges down in the box, though the factory advertises only 5-down.

That same action will usually hold 5-down in .458 Lott, sometimes 6-down.

That same action will hold 4-down in 404 Jeffery, perfect factory box for this match, or .375 RUM.

That same action will "sometimes" hold 4-down in .416 Rigby, though the factory advertises only 3-down.

That same action will hold only 3-down in .505 Gibbs, with no room to spare.

The SIGARMS Prechtl-actioned M98 Magnum holds 4-down in 450 Dakota. Yes it does have a pocket-plate floor plate.

Ye Olde Pre-64 Winchester M70 was designed on purpose to hold 4-down of .375 H&H with no drop-box or pocket-plate tricks, just a "Mauser Cosine Law" perfect box is used with a sleek and trim stock belly contour.

.585 Nyati: That is best done with a straight vertical stack/in-line-feed, so the limit is only how long do you want the banana clip to be???

Hope this helps some.

Welcome back. wave

The ammo is heavy if you don't have a gun bearer.

Cool

Because I want to have as many rounds as possible in the magazine when hunting DG as brown bear..
I have used my .460 wby ( it will only take 3 rounds 2 down and one up) And sometimes it feels like it is not enough.. when I hunt moose it is some times possible to shot 2 at the same time and if they are running fast then it is just not enough.
I think it is better for DG to have lets say 6 .458 Lott ready than only 3 .600 OK..
i would feel much more safe with the 6 shot lott!

Unless you are on some sort of culling operation anything above three rounds is not going to help much...

There is a diminishing return on number of rounds fired...

The first is the most important...

CZ's are great for magazine capacity. Mine hold six Win Mag's/Lott's down and one up the spout. Nice to know you can throw a bunch of lead if you need to.

Well, you could always get one of them Russian rifles that takes a 5 round enbloc clip (rapid reloading) and fires the 14.5x114. That ought to ge enough firepower for bear, esp with the various projectles that are available. Roll Eyes

Overkill- I can understand your fear of the charging Sweedish Mooses! A terrifying sight to behold indeed! I too would be terrified of them and would want to have as many rounds in my gun as possible. However, I feel that I must remind you that a .458 lott is not OVERKILL even on a moose. You need to do pennance. Sit down and bang your head on the ground three times! Take a Advil and swear on the book of gun values that you will never think this way again!-Rob

HA HA HA ok I promise not to think that way again... Big Grin
And I am not afraid for a swedish moose or the biggest alaska moose. But It is good to have a good magazine capacity when they are running and you may miss with your first shot or with the second. I shot them at 150+ yards when they a running sometimes.

But the brown bear is another animal.. I think you are right that the .458lott is not a real overkill for them Wink

If I ever want to have another rifle than my .460 it will start with .585 Nyati to .600 Overkill or maybe the .577 Tyrannosuar Big Grin

True
They also make the Express light in .375 H&H.
The Heym Express is a very BIG rifle and it only feels right in the BIG calibers .416 andf above.
Heym does sell the actions for projects, they are however expensive. I think they are a goos alternative to any magnum Mauser from others makers. The magazine is wide and well suited for those BIG cartridges.

Cheers,

André

I get 5 + 1 in my 404 Jeffery Mauser and in the same magazine 6+ 1 of 358 Norma cases, so therers room and confidence in that magazine enough to handle most situations i will encounter.
