I put this post on the Reloading forum, too, but since there are so many .500 shooters here on the Big Bores forum, I thought I'd ask here as well.

Lee apparently doesn't make this size collet crimping die. And since I'm seating and roll crimping for my .500A2 in two steps anyway, I'd like to find one somewhere.

You can get the Factory Crimp die made by Lee Precision as a special order item. I ordered dies for .416 Rigby, .458 Lott, .470 NE, and .500 NE. The .416 Rigby and .458 Lott were each $25.00 and the two Nitro Express rounds were $50.00 each. You just load up a dummy round mail it to Lee Precision attention: Dave, with credit card info and mailing address and they will make the die for you.

They are making dies large enough for .500? When I had asked about this they told me they didn't have enough metal in the top of the die to do this. Cool. Will have to get one too.

There is one caviat, however. I have an RCBS Rockchucker Supreme. As you probably know, these presses have the removeable inner sleeve, which when removed, allows large body dies to be used. The NE crimp dies are large body dies.

Will Lee do this with the collet sizing die too or is it only a crimp die thing? Also what other presses can use the large body dies?

Thanks, Geronomo. That's even better! Sounds like I should check in with Lee to make sure the die body for the .500A2 will be the normal 7/8".

Buy a .5 inch 5C collet and a cheap collet closer. Works perfectly-Rob

Cokdnloded, I honestly don't know about the other types of dies you asked about. I was only interested in the crimp die and that was the only die I asked about. As far as other presses with the removeable inner sleeve, I believe that the Lee Classic Cast and the Redding 700 Ultramag both have them. There may be others, but those two come to mind at this time. Hope it helps.

I too could not get Lee to make me a .510 cal crimp die for my .50 Alaskan for any price. Now that they are making a press and die set for the .50 BMG maybe that has changed. Guess it is time to e-mail them again.

jeffe,

I'm not sure I follow all of this, but are you saying that a standard, H&H based belted magnum resizing die will crimp a .510" bullet using the belt recess?

Found it!

Death Grip Crimp

And I even posted in that thread! But I wonder, does it really work or is it some kind of half-assed solution?
