which is a better d.g. cart...apparently the 460 g&a will do 2300 fps with a 500 gr pill with moderate preasure the ideal according to a few here, it also has the ability to go on the m70 action with 5 down below easier. and to top this off it feeds well. the 450 rigby has either more horsepower or even lower preasure but less down below and a sharper shoulder which can make feeding less slick but no apparent headspacing issues of the 460....so which is the better d.g. cart? what say you? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Having owned and hunted with the G&A and the Rigby's twin, ie 450 Dakota...the 450 is better, IMO. You aren't going to get 5 down on a M70 action with the G&A, more likely 4 and then only with a drop box. I prefer the bigger case and ability to get more velocity if I want it. Feeding is no problem with either one if the 'smith knows what he's doing. The G&A is a decent round but offers nothing I would trade my 450 for.

Boom, I am going to agree with John, and say the .450 Rigby is the better dangerous game cartridge. The .460 G&A is a wildcat and will remain a wildcat. I know of rifle manufacturers and ammunition makers that have considered chambering it, but the combined tolerances of factory chambers and factory ammo mean there will be headspace problems. It takes a careful handloader to make ammo for a particular rifle. You will need a magnum sized action to get a "five down" rifle. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.
