Yah! but I did buy 500 cases, just in case (pun intended, ouch!) you are right. A 358 RUM would have been perfect, IMHO, for everything but the Big Three. It seems to just be commmon sense to buy 500 cases for any rifle you purchase.

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to remove my 375 Ruger article from this thread. The RealGuns site is free to access and doesn't even require free registration to access this article. I don't mind reasonable quotes from the material, but wholesale copying is doing a disservice to a fellow firearm enthusiast who spends a great deal of time and money to produce a free web site for folks like yourself.

Thanks for the consideration - Joe.

Incidentally, that custom 9.3 is beautiful. My compliments to the person who had the good taste and skill to produce it.

joe-4570,
Welcome to ar.com.
That would be .366torque who could delete the copy of your text (which is at least minus the excellent phototography and cartridge drawing which can be viewed by going to the realguns site), or one of moderators/administrators.
We must allow you to get the bean count on your home site that the excellent article deserves, eh?

Ron,

A couple of non gun forums I am on will only allow a link to a site to be posted....no text or pictures posted from the site.

Joe has a site with a ton of info....but it does help if you like those rifles where the front of the bolt looks like an interupted thread Big Grin

Check out the 358/378 and from memory he had it done with the Wby double radius shoulder.

Mike,
I checked it out. thumb
My thoughts: .395/.378 Wby = ".398 Wby" for easy headstamp alteration. thumb

I would register as a member at realguns.com, if they would let me use a hotmail email address, but they won't.
That limits their membership a bit no doubt.
Some of us travelers like to use the "unreal" email addresses. Wink

Thanks for the nice comments. I shot a private message to .366 torque as suggested. I have actually posted here from time to time but wasn't sure of the mechanics of communications. It is a good discussion community with excellent information. I also check reference links from time to time to find "constructive critcism" on some of my efforts. Smiler

Ron,

I thought AR no longer allowed the Hotmails etc.

I have 3 internet outlets and I can access emails from any computer and anywhere. For example, the email I have on AR is with Optus which is Australia's second biggest. If I was at your place now I would simply open an Optus website and enter my user name and password and there are all the emails. I can also email from that site to someone else.

In fact a few weeks ago the cable modem for my optus died and I had a couple of emails from forum members which I picked up by opening the Optus site on one of my other internet servers and replied to their emails via that site, so as to keep the email address consistent.

Mike,
The hornswoggle thread? I was badgered into it by PM's from an interested party who would also qualify as a grandfather. That brought it to a head really fast. And now the boil has been nicely drained, thanks to you. Wink

Vapodog,
The ammo is not available from Hornady yet. Shipments come in daily Mon-Fri at the local emporium, but no .375 Ruger so far.

I puzzle over this and wonder if they are pulling all the bullets and reloading the latest new replacement for the brittle Interbond, and going back to a steel FMJ solid like the old style ... whatever. The brass is all I am interested in, aside from chronographing to see just how outlandish the hype has been about the velocity acheived by the factory loads with whatever bullet.

Price? Whatever the market will bear, we shall see.

It should be clear that Hornady know's their DG bullet sucks a big one.....Hornady himself was there to see it!!!

It would surprise me however if they would shuck the 270 spire point as it's a pretty good plains game bullet and big game bullet IMO.....The interbond is not in my experience yet.

I know they went away from the copperclad steel jackets as they was unable to get the material.....If they are getting some from aussieland....I'm not sure but there's no reason I can see that they shouldn't have that ammo available in 270 grain interlocks.

On another thread it was stated that their 9.3 X 74 ammo is not loaded with their bullet.....this is a first for Hornady.....(I'm still not sure this is true)

That said.....ElStevo would do well to talk to the guys in Kansas about stuffing a few A-Frames in them.......now that's worth something!!! but a much too bitter pill to swallow!!!!!

Given that this is merely for brass.......the cup and core bullet is free....pull it and reload it!!!!...yes...it's still too much.

Loaded with A-Frames or Northforks or TBBCs and it's possibly a fair buy.

That should be good as possibly by that time the darn thing might be so popular that Winchester might load it as well....or Remington. A bit of competition will bring down the prices and it might then be affordable to the folks it was intended.

People are funny animals. $40-50 a box for ammo dooms the cartridge. At the same time they pay $37.50 for 20 .416 Rigby EMPTY brass and are hollering for Ruger to make the .450/400 No. 1 which will be the same way. Doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not sure I can even buy Norma Rigby brass for that now. I'm relatively certain that the ammo problem is due to Hornady not wanting to use those old bullets and tarnishing the reputation of a brand new rifle and cartridge. Better to have people wait a bit than to have crap bullets.

this is beginning to sound like the bubbas and their 45-70 double rifle from remington for $500.00

remington will be very busy making ammo for ruger rifles .... and selling the $500 double
rifle.

seems to me another waste of time by marketing people

just load the 375 holland with the powder used in the wsm - fill it full, maybe even compress the load. cram in as much as possible.

you'll get velocity you never dreamed of.....

Be thankful you don't live in Canada. That would rule out everything but plain vanilla 30/06, 270 Win, 30-30, etc.

Just about everything is $40 or more up here.

The CHEAPEST 375 H&H ammo I can usually find is just shy of $50. Any of the premium ammo is usually $75 and up.

Reloading is pretty popular as a result.

Cheers,
Canuck

While I could see while folks jumped on the 338 federal and 325 WSM as stillborn, I don't see why all the animosity towards the Ruger?

While I agree there likely will never be a round to topple the 375 H&H, the 375 Ruger IMHO fits a very real niche, at this point in time.

With the current demise of the Win M70, the only domestic crf is the Ruger. While Ruger does have their magnum 77, it is really sized for the 416 Rigby and larger rounds.

So, with the std length M77 action, having a domestic crf 375 fills a slot. Will it succeed? depends on how many guns Ruger needs to make per annum for it to succeed. Given Remingtons record of introducing, and dropping the larger bores, there is definately a spot for it.

If you don't want one, don't sweat it, but don't call it dead, just yet Wink
