The sniper rifle has confirmed kills at 2.5 miles in Ukraine.
It makes the 585 T-Rex look like a pea shooter.
It technically is not a wildcat.
This round is used for this purpose since it was invented (1941 or so).
It is not firing 600gr bullet at 3200 fps, but generally 1000gr bullet or something around that weight.
For example GS custom bullets made long range bullets for this caliber many many years ago (at least was listed in their web catalog)
It is very interesting round, double muzzle energy of .50 BMG.

I was imagining if the case was used as a “Sporting” round and not a long range sniper round shooting the 750 grain hunting solids at an insane velocity or perhaps even the lighter softs for pesky Savanna varmit hunting with predjudice. It would be the Andre the Giant of rounds.

4.5” case plus sporting bullets up to .8” from tip to canalure = 5.3” ish. 50 BMG is 5.45” OAL so if you can get a wide enough bolt, it can be in the same length action as a 50 BMG.

boom stickPerhaps more interesting is the ability to make on this case a 4 Bore From Hell or 4 BFH. You could do this rimless or get your lathe out and manufacture a rim. I do find it interesting to think of a 4 bore machine gun on an old Soviet gun. You could go a tad smaller and make a 20MM belt fed machine gun. Easier to find 20mm projectiles. So you would have a hybrid 4 bore and 20mm call it the “420”

Several of the 20mm anti-tank rounds of ww2 or pre war era stomp all this stuff. They were the largest should fired rifles concieved. 30,000- 35,000ftlbs muzzle energy.

boom stickWell, I don’t know of any sporting 20mm projectiles but I’m sure they could be made. 4 bore is a bit more nostalgic.
