What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

boom stick3.5 hours... that is what my gps says but that usually means 3 hours.
It would be great for those in LA and the Bay Area to carpool to make it more enjoyable and less expensive.

Kyler HamannDarn, that's in my backyard but I've had that weekend booked to out of town clients for quite a while. Too bad, it would have been fun to blow the dust off a couple rifles.

BlacktailerSo as Mike said, Who's coming?
The shoot will be in the Santa Lucia mountains just west of Paso Robles. It's about 3 hours drive down 101 from San Jose, about 3 1/2 hours drive from LA up THE 5 then west on THE 46.
It will be on my place so we are talking VERY casual. No wanna be Marine Drill Sgt range masters. Dust off those big bores.

LionHunterMy Sabatti 500 NE arrived yesterday. I was looking forward to bringing it to the shoot for comments and evaluation. And I am really bummed that I will be in Alaska on the date of the DRSS West Coast meet.

BTW, it looks very nice with upgraded figured walnut, hand checkering and Oak Leaf & Acorn engraving.

stradlingguess I will also come I can bring 5 or six doubles up to 577 but will need to know how much ammo to load for each what is the near airport for a 210
Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

Will be great to have you. It would be great see the big doubles like the 577 there. When we get the shooting stations figured out we will know how much to tell people to bring for the course but as Kipling said you can never have enough red wine, books and ammo. I am sure others would want to shoot them if you are open. Once we know all the guns that will show people can buy ammo to shoot in others guns or pay to shoot ammo if so agreed so bring some extra bucks to compensate. One attendee is a future big bore owner but does not have any yet but would love to shoot if someone is open to letting them use their gun.

Paso has a nice airport PRB. It's about 3 miles east of town off of hwy 46. That's where I keep my 182. We'll arrange ground transportation.

Dago RedWow guys, this sounds like a real great get together. I'd love to come up, my work calendar I think is open enough that weekend, just gotta check with the commander when she gets up and make sure personal calendar is open.
I don't have anything on hand (416 taylor won't be done till next year) bigger than my 375, and it's bolt trash anyways, but if you guys want I can bring it. I'd just like to come meet everybody, stare at your sexy rifles, and have a good time. I like me some good drinks and cigars and bbq'n.
You gin drinkers ever try hendricks? it's my latest thing, i hate gin but this stuff is great, had a party a weekend or so ago and it was the first bottle empty. I also make what many consider to be a very fine bbq sauce.
is there camping in the area or we looking at motels?
