It is a beauty... Can you tell us more about the cart like the dimensions? you say a shortened 404 jeffery? A 400 tembo is a 400 on the belted 375 HH case. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

boom stick, Are you getting it confused with the 400 Pondoro in the A-Square manual? That is a .409 groove diameter on belted H&H case. The 400 Tembo of Ed Woslum & Doctari is a true .400 and based on the 404 Jeffery case. Here is a start on previous water under the bridge: http://forums.accuratereloadin...=158103803#158103803 Check Pierre van der Walt's upcoming second edition cartridge book for a rundown of the relatively new 400 Tembo. Look out 400 Tembo. The .395 Blaser Magnum is on the way. Properly headstamped brass with one curved stroke of an engraving tool, on the mass produced .375 BM ... if we ever see any of it. BTW, the 400 Tembo does have cheap .400-caliber pistol bullets for plinking, but it is do-able to size those down to .395.

Jim's "Gunsmithing" thread indicates that this is the short version. There is also a 400 Tembo long version. 400 Tembo No.1 400 Tembo No.2

Welcome, boom stick. We are only human. I understand how it is, to have forgotten more cartridge trivia than most gunnutts will ever have learned. Gotta stay current with a little review now and then. .395"-caliber (10.03mm) is the closest thing to a true 10mm-caliber that I know of.

Thought the Tembo was a rimmed double rifle cart. developed of the 450 case, kind of like a 450/400 but firing a .400 bullet I talked to Edd Woslum at SCI 2-3 years ago about, hmm Ed DRSS Member

505 There are three versions of the cartridge. the original - based on the .404 and sized to fit in a winchester M70 action or equivalent. A shorter version requested by me for the african market that would fit a standard magazine box on an M98, then there is the rimmed edition for a double rifle - .450 basic necked down and shortened a tad. The original and the rimmed both throw a 350grn .400 barnes TSX down range at 2400fps. Keeping pressures down for old actions the Tembo short throws a 350grn X at 2350fps (although it is easy enough to get 2400fps if you are prepared to accept magnum pressures.)

Oh, yeh, I remember that flanged version now. And the first edition of Pierre van der Walt's book (International Big Bore Cartridge Load Data Collection) does not have the .400 Tembo. Wait for the second edition. Page 108 of Kevin Robertson's book (Africa's Most Dangerous) has a pic of the .400 Tembo. I am going to have to start a file on the .400 Tembo cartridges. It is in direct competition with the .395 Family. Gotta keep up with the Joneses. I'm a doctor, not a physicist! Bones in Star Trek 2009
