Snowwolfe450 AR Update?
Any progress? I have a LH W70 in 7mm mag just dieing to be rebarreled!
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

jeffeossoHowdy,
Here's where the project is
470 AR - Barrel in had, Ruger 77 mkII in the mail, Dies in hand. Need a couple hours to put it together, stick a NECG band front sight, and work on feeding
458 AR - 1938 VZ-24 (Thanks forrest) with a Parket hale 458 winmag barrel rechambered. Sights and barrel recoil lug are on that. Action beddd into my mauser "mule" stock, working on fabricating bottom metal. Feeding work to be done after bottom is finished.
416 AR (Frank's rifle) - Action barreled and chambered. Next is feeding, stockword, bedding, front sight, bluing etc etc etc.
I hope to have all three of these up and running (and the 416 DONE) before the DSC show.

boom sticksnow wolf...what are your thoughts of why you picked the 458 over the 416 and 470??? not that the 458 would have any flies on it i just think the 470 and 416 make more sense and are more versitile. what say you

15 December 2005, 09:21
SnowwolfeBullet selection mainly. 416 is my second choice and I havent ruled it out yet. Simply no reason for me to consider the 470.

Frank,
I have to do a project for Forrest, that I should get done THIS weekend, and then start inletting yours.
BS,
yep, which one do YOU want to build and why?
Snowwolf,
While I am building them all, the 458 would be "the" one for me, if there could be only one. For bullets, SD, etc etc etc

boom stickthe 470 and 416 are on my list for a bolt action and i have not ruled out the 375 on a blr yet

the 470 and 416 i am thinking on a stainless savage. the 470 cuz i like making a big hole with heavy bullets...i realllllyyyy like the sound of heavy bullets hitting the 200 yard gong

as a wise person once said...it is a fine line between a hobby and mental illness. i like the 470 also because of my close range philosophy. cant wait to see the 470 tests with 600 grain bullets

although the 500 gr tsx bullets for hunting
http://www.barnesbullets.com/prodtsx_new2006.phpthe 416 i just luve...(spelling is correct on that)it is a pet cal with me. my fantasy one cal safari caliber. i like the s.d. on the heavy bullets.
christmass is tight this year so no secret gifts to myself this year although the horizon is brighter...just got a new job and my base is $6,000 more than i am making now plus i hope to double my income by next year so all i can do right now is dare to dream...also the misses wants a house...i long for the days when all women wanted was a little house on the prarie and a man to bring home fresh meat...women are expensive these days
p.s. i love the pistol bullets idea in the 470...a gun that will shoot 275 gr x pistol bullets all the way to 600 gr elephant slammers is some gun!!!!!!!!!
its a mental/fun thing not a neccessity

jeffe
wow, that is interesting

i thought the 470 was your splinter in the mind...nothing wrong with the 458! 300 gr nosler partitions it will be awesome as well as the heavies
with the advent of the new barnes tsx in 404 in 400 gr. this makes the 404 a.r. more appealing does it not? any plans on that?
15 December 2005, 18:50
jeffeosso404 ar?
with barnes TX 416 bullets out there, there's barely enough difference to .423 to make it worth anything...
I'll do a drawing if someone actaully places an order with dave manson for the reamer...
sorry, don't like being seen as non-traditional, but the 404 bore doesn't do anything for me that the 416 doesn't...
of course, I am more of a 416 rigby fan than the 404
BS,
please re-read my post, i said IF only one ...
jeffe

boom stickoops, missed that point...sorry
than the 470 and dissregard my 416 ranting and musings

the stainless 470 on a savage has caught my eye but it might be whatever is too good to pass up when i see it in the shop.
keep taking the road less traveled...thar be adventure at every turn and passion in thy breast...it might be too early for poetry...i am drinkink (that was funny) bourbon for my cough and am high on its vapors right now. keep up the good work and reloader magazine will have you as the "wildman of the year"

time for a nap (sip)

SnowwolfeWhat type of velocities are expected with the .450 and 400 & 500 gr bullets?
How about for the .416 with 350 & 400 gr?
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.
16 December 2005, 00:14
jeffeossoSnowwolf,
i should post this as a FAQ
.416 - 400 - 2400fps
.459 and .475 - 500gr at 2200 fps

boom stickyerrright...it is great and it will have its own fame once it gets some critters...have you set up an interview with guns and ammo yet???

16 December 2005, 07:07
Frank MartinezI can hardly wait. I was talking with Mike about some NF 416's I need to order up and hope they feed well. Otherwise they stay with the Taylor and I use Hawk or woodleigh.
By the way Jeffe. Have you ever heard of the 600 Mammoth?
I had a look at one of the rounds the other night at a friends. He has a single bullet he got from the fellow who made it. I am hoping to go over and visit him and see his rifle after Christmas. It is
very impressive.
I will try to get a photo of the cartridge and send it to you.

Great idea. I have an area to shoot about 5 min away. Sorry we didn't get to talk. Were you here for business or pleasure? I am going on 35 years here but my wife is needing to move to a warmer climate for health reasons and as soon as I retire we will be moving. I keep suggesting Africa but she is thinking Palm Springs. Go figure a woman.

17 December 2005, 23:55
Frank MartinezSpeaking of Elk, I hope you had a chance to go by Fern Canyon or Prairie Creek. It is in the Redwood State Park. There are some giant 6 and 7 point bulls there and most are easily seen from the 101.
We used to take 8th graders there for a few days of hiking and learning about the natural world back when I was more involved in education.

tiggertateThe NF bullets have a great profile for feeding; shouldn't ba a problem. I saw your barreled action today. You're going to be a happy camper!

Frank MartinezI knew if I got right with it I would be very satisfied. Just reading Jeffeosso's posts got me fired up. He has been spot on with information and follow through.
