If one were to cut off the neck of a 50 BMG and open the remaining case to minimum body taper, is the result any cartridge that someone is currently using? We Band of Bubbas N.R.A Life Member TDR Cummins Power All The Way Certified member of the Whompers Club

I'm pretty sure that's close to Ed Hubel's shorter version of his 700 HE.

Mine has a belt for headspacing, which if you just cut the case off you wouldn't have. Or you can put a rim on like Rob invented and have a 3" 12GA FH with rimmed headspace. .Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Thanks Ed. Would the same work if a person were to find a few hundred 55 Brittish Boys anti-Tank cartridges? Andy. p.s. Could a Siamese Mauser be modified easily for either of the resultant cartridges? Andy We Band of Bubbas N.R.A Life Member TDR Cummins Power All The Way Certified member of the Whompers Club

I would like to see a 12 gauge rimless on the 700 HE case. 2.5" long and use 12 gauge barrels and slugs. Use RIPs new beer keg bullet crimped in the middle. What wont that kill within 100 yards? It IS a 12 gauge 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

Full-length and opened with minimal shoulder is the 729Jongmans ... 895gr monolithic at 2367fps or 1048gr at 2250fps. Double OUCH. Cheers... Con

I never thought about the 729 Jongmans being a 12-guage before, but by golly it is. It is the 12 Gauge From Hell Rimless and Barely Bottlenecked: 12GaFHRBB, a BB gun of extraordinary proportions. Darwin lead slugs of 1438 grains sized to .730 could be used in a 729 Jongmans. I wonder how fast a 729 Jongmans could push Darwins? Not much difference from a 12GaFH 3.85" "shotgun," eh? Just a matter of getting proper brass and proper shotgun together, eh? Will have to go check Ye Olde COTW for the case length on the 729 Jongmans.

Those ballistics for the Jongmans are surprisingly weak. Basically the same as a .600Ok. My .700RLG on the .50BMG case can chuck a 1000gr bullet over 3100fps. The 12Ga FH can do the same and maybe a little more.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

The 729 Jongmans is actually a .727-caliber. Made by necking down the 50BMG cylindrical brass. Must be that artillery primer stuff. So The Jongmans is not full 12 guage caliber, FWIW, close but no cigar. COTW does have a little info on it, but no brass length stated. The cartridge is named for the Jongmans action of Australia, a bolt action made for 50BMG.

Siamese Mauser not big enough for any length much over 2.5" case. And then you'd have to ream out the front lug shoulders like I did with bigger Enfield for my first 700HE 3.25" gun. But I added rear lugs which is hard on a Mauser. They go to all that work for stuff like the Jongmans and you outdo them with smaller whatever. We will have actions out soon for my 700HE, I have cases, can make more, has positive dependable headspacing and ignition with big primers, no starter powders, shoot any bullets from 825gr up to whatever, have a guy who cam make bullets reasonable. And loads all tested.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Ed... so the Siamese mauser can do a 2.5" 700 HE necked to .729" 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

I wouldn't do it as it is too hard to put on rear lugs where you have a mickey mouse bolt handle base. It is a strength and safety issue. That's why I like Enfields for big experimenting, where I put first 700H 3.25" in one. Or in my second 700H in a Savage 210. And of course the MRC PH soon.. Ed MZEE WA SIKU
