They are a starting point for some excellent DGR's. Sadly, the .505 Gibbs rifles need an AHR vertical stack magazine to be reliable. All the rest are good to go, IMHO. This is a duplication of a posting on the .450 Rigby thread of the African hunting forum. Yep, check the classified section too. All of Whittaker's used/unfired guns have their original boxes too: AS NEW IN BOX. Darrell Whittaker has a pretty good selection most of the time. PS: Whittaker Guns will be among the first kids on the block to get the .375 Ruger chambered rifles in 2007. He is a big dealer with high volume, just needing to make a few dollars on each new gun he sells. Ruger, CZ, Remington, Kimber, and Cooper all pay attention to him. Winchester doesn't seem to be paying attention to anybody anymore. I believe he was the first to scrap the CZ-A-Square ammo that was bad, and they sent him new stuff that works, but you do not want to buy any of that ridiculously priced ammo. Load your own. He is fast and reliable on shipping, getting new stuff all the time. He just bought a 684 gun estate from the family of a recently deceased man in Michigan, and some interesting stuff is arriving from that lately.

PPS: Whittaker Guns finally unloaded that Merkel .375 H&H belted double rifle (140-2 or 140A) they were stuck with for several years. Gone finally! They have an as-new Pedersoli .45-70 hammer double for about $2100 IIRC. They have sold all the Dakota's they had on hand. They have more Kimbers and Coopers than you could shake a stick at in all those little calibers, and the best prices for new guns I have seen anywhere in the country that I have been.

An unfired Euro-made CZ is a MYTH. They have a proof house in county of origin, but by all means take advantage of savings by getting 2nd-hand rifle. In calibers you're interested in, there is infinitestimal chance of encountering "gator's back" bore ahead of the throat area!

True. Test targets come with the Lux's. Unfired by anyone but the proofing and the target tester anyway, and they do seem to get a cursory cleaning at the factory before shipping to the dealer.

Great news, and about time! They have been spotted before, done by CZ USA in KC. Whittaker got one of the .505 Gibbs once with everything possible done to it by CZ: jeweling of bolt and follower, crossbolts fore and aft of the magazine well, muzzle brake, mercury recoil reducers, NECG sights, barrel band etc. I took it off the rack to see if the magazine box was different than the original offering, and it was slightly, I noticed this on opening the floor plate to look under the hood: The box was installed upside down and the stock was cracked through the side wall of the magazine well. Delivered from KC by UPS like that. That one went right back the next day. What a waste. Could have been easily repaired for the right discount to a good customer. Probably got restocked and shipped to somebody else. Those were the only CZ installed crossbolts I have seen so far. What a waste. When CZ is good, they are very good. When they are bad, things get squirrley. I am the local CZ inspector.

RIP, What is the difference between a LUX and an American. I saw a 416 Rigby CZ at Gander Mountain yesterday that seemed okay. But the LUX you listed is a much better price. Also correct me but a CZ needs. Trigger New safety Glass bed Cross bolts New pad anything else. Thanks BigB

Howdy BigB, I like the CZ trigger and safety. I have matured. No need to replace unless you simply must have an M70 style safety, for looks. They come with Pachmayr Decelerators one inch thick. No need to replace. You might see some old ones with the cheaper ventilated pads, but that was several years ago they quit doing that. Crossbolts and glass bedding are needed. The Lux stock is the Euro-Bavarian-Hogback, my favorite. It has one crossbolt behind the tang, fore of the grip, but still needs crossbolts fore and aft of the magazine well. The American stock has the straight comb and is a little shorter LOP and thicker in the box and grip. It needs crossbolts fore and aft of the magazine well.

so the lux 458 win mag can be turned into a 500 mbogo or 500 a2 pretty cheaply...hmmmmm...thanks rabbi for the teaching p.s. is it lawful to shoot on the sabath as long as you follow the ripmandments??? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Those lying-fallow .458WinMag CZ's can be rechambered to any bigger .458 that will fit the box, such as the .458/.338 Lapua RIPoff, and they are perfect for rebarreling to 500 Mbogo. It is highly spiritual and Righteous to shoot and hunt on Sunday, and the added benefit of the Sabbath is the special blessing on 9.3mm bores for that day of the week. Remember these are part of the canons (not cannons) of the Newish Unorthodox Templars (NUTs) faith.

you may like the hogs back stock but me i am an american the cheaper hogsback is to subsidize the new synthetic stock the 450 rigby follows all the ripmandments and would be the cheapest but i think the 510 is THE ideal cal for this size case. (unless you are going for looooooow preasure, think 40,000 psi ) anything over 2400 fps in a big bore is just fireworks i think but to each his own... 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. RIP ----- As you well know, you can count on one thing from Darrell Whittaker's, the cheapest price you will find. He advertises 1000 long guns and they are there. If he doesn't have it in stock, normaly in 2-4 days he can have it. When he puts a price on the gun, that is it, no cutting. He will also swap and give you a fair price. Half of my rifles in my vaults are from there, all my reloading supplies. Good shooting. phurley

Phurley, Best big gun shop in the world. They are open every day of the year but two: Turkey Day and X-mas. And there is an after hours poker game weekly. Thousands of guns from the finest to the junkiest. I am glad that Merkel double in .375 H&H belted finally took the walk. The cherries come and go quickly there, to and from many states around. Nepotism rules there: Boss Darrell, wife Becky, daughter Cindy, son Chris, son-in-law Chuck, sister Debbie, and other assorted relations. Even Darrell's mother has been spotted granny-handling a counter and cash register. It is the social Mecca of Owensboro. Where women go to pick up men who would be men.
