Rusty, that looks good, but why would you use such a nice piece of wood on a left handed rifle?

Rusty,
Where did you aquire those blanks from , if you don't mind me asking? ( I am in the market for a blank but prices are all over the place, so I don't know how much a blank like that might cost)

BTW , are you in the market for a new best friend? Smiler thumb

Rusty, that is a beautiful piece of wood. I especially like the skeleton cap. Very nice. What engraving motif is Roger going to put on the rifle for you?
Lots more photgraphs please.

Rusty,

Looking foreward to seeing your new 404J in person. How long will it be? Any chance you will have it at DSC? You are going to have to get to one of our "Bubba shoots" with that beauty.

That is a beautiful piece of wood, and the stock work is excellent. You are well on your way to having a great rifle. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Such beatifull workmanship and such a nice gun should never be waisted on Claro or Black walnut IMO....A piece of English or Turkish would have valued that rifle up by $2000 minimum and enhanced it even more..just my opinnion, but it is a nice gun and the stockmaker did himself proud....

The blanks came for Robert Watts atWatts Walnut

Robert is as nice a guy to deal with as I've met! Blanks were very reasonable.

As far as Roger's work is concerned I have sent him some pictures of what I have in mind. Just some simple scroll work.

Awesome, buddy!

You used the Montana Rifleman action, didn't you?

Drop me a PM and let me know some of the costs. I have a barrelled action from MRC coming someday and looking for someone to stock it for me. The guy you are using looks top notch and I would be curious of his $$$$.

Rusty,
I didn't catch on to the left and right hand rifles the first time through on this thread, as it went right by me though the pictures show it. Now having read your further comments I am even more impressed. Two swell rifles and your friend must be as swell as you are to deserve such a gift! beer

Drat, I missed getting to see those beauties. We evacuated to our friend's cabin in Canyon Lake (Mark, who directed me to Tip). We went over to see him on Friday but he was out. They look great. Bob

Rusty, I'm glad to see you found somebody that actually builds rifles instead of other things. What a concept. HA!

They look nice. I can't wait to see them finished!

Terry,
Yep, it's just amazing! He answers the phone, even calls me, if need be. To top it all off he seems to be progressing at his promised timeline. This is most certainly not what I had grown to accept as proper gunsmith project behavior.

Previously I thought that you ordered parts sent them to the gunsmith with some sort of payment. After the inital contact you were supposed to only have infrequent or no contact with him at all, until he said it was ready or you sent the Sheriff's Dept. out to see if he was still alive?

Perhaps, Tip Burns has not had that kind of gunsmith training? I'm sure as Hell not going to tell him to change the way he does business!
