saved from a fate worse than death the train wreck is reborn punisher

thanks for all the help and encouragement from you guys.

I can type this a whole lot easyer than it was to do it but here goes \\

start by pulling rifle apart remove bbl throw in scrap pile. panic for 2 days trying to get a blank . after 3 false starts get blank and thread chamber crown and cut extractor cut. now open stock for new bbl profile. throw front base in scrap start over new one to fit new bbl profile. make ne wbase and put on with 4 8x40 screws and 3 3/16th taper pins "you guys were right about the screws not holding". parkerize everythig. re install bbl and press fit front base to bbl and front ring with pins and screws. oh did i mention that we decided to put a cone breach on this one so had to re cut front of bolt when instaling bbl. " it will now feed an empty case " but just more panic and time to put together. put it all backin the stock and fill stock with glass because new bbl profile cut all the way through the inside of stock so had to re fill forearm with solid glass.
let dry 72 hours and tried it out works like it should shoots great ready to go to africa with 10 days to spare thumb diggin

that is a VERY serious looking rifle...something to take to Africa and cause a few train wrecks with!

Thanks for posting a few pics, and good job. Now I know where to send a rush project...

Crusher, are you using Tap Magic to cut your chambers?

I like how you left the bbl the same profile the lenght of the scope base.

Your rear and extended scope mount bases allow for a wide variety of sight mounting options.

It may offend some purists, but new technology is sometimes very useful.

After all even Cordite Powder was "new technology" when it was first used.

it is 458 lott set up for barnes flat point banded solids 500 gr . I think it was originaly a p14 but it has several m1917 parts extractor mag box parts ejector come to mind. so the real answer is yes it is a p14/17 . it does not matter wich reciever it was they both work well for the conversion the 1917 needs less extra parts but the p14 needs less bolt face work no big deal either way.

Nice work buddy, I knew you'd have it back together and shooting in plenty of time I know real well how us "type A" personalities are!
Sometimes an "emergency" brings out the best results in our work and skills.
Good luck on your trip and I am really looking forward to seeing the pictures sometime when the rush settles down, burn me a few pictures on a disk maybe.
Wish I were gonna be there.
