nice rifle and it is a classic on hunting, and the cartridge is a fine one that becomes more and more popular as the new hunting seasons comes.

What do you think about the 8x57IS ALF?

That is exceptional! I'd love to know what the asking price was. What is the bore diameter?

Now all you have to do is pop 4 holes in the bridges and mount some Talleys for a Leupold 1.5-5x. Big Grin

Wish I had one or more just like it.

Forgive my lack of knowledge but what is that on the right side of the front ring - looks kind of like a screw head?

if there is a "happy hunting ground" as the indians suggest, these will be laying around all over the place for just the right moment. that is a diety of a rifle you got there. damn! i keep comming back to stare at it (droolx4 or 5, i lost count) enjoy!

ALF,

You have some of the most beautiful rifles. And this one must be near the top of the list. Thanks for posting the pictures.

All my Jeffery rifles have them.

JJ_Miller:

I dont know if this rifle was ever at Lucas Potgieter's Powder Keg, it is currently on consignment with Bennie Laubscher.

ALF
Do you have an email or web site for Bennie Laubscher? I had one back on '01, butlast time I tried it didn't work

Thanks,

By-the-way, darn naice looking rifle.

Green with envy here too.
That is a lively and well balanced looking rifle that I guess weighs 8.75 pounds. Am I wrong?
I would love to have one like it, even though I do appreciate plastic and stainless also. Wink

Thanks for the museum class gawking I just did. clap

When was that 404J on consignment? I bought one at the Powder Keg a few months ago, and am waiting for my import permit. Mine does not have a peep sight, but does still have the original "browning" vs blueing tha tone sees on refinished rifles of that vintage.

I also picked up a Jeffery in 375 H&H, a beautiful Mannlicher Mauser in 9.3x62 and a Boer War era 7x57 mauser with an octagon barrel. The Powder Keg has nice stuff, but their best rifles get sent to Britain for auction, so unless one really pushes them and asks for a particular rifle, the good ones don't even show up in the shop.

What is the treatment they did on the front ring? Can you post a closeup?

Congratulations to you.

no need to take it out of SA. You can store it in my government regulation safe! I'll be more than happy to look after it for you! Big Grin

Nice one, I almost bought a similar rifle. The one I looked at was made between the wars in Cleveland Ohio USA.

Woodjack
Does anyone make peepsight units like that on Alf beauty, these days,or must one source an original?
Some of the stuff I have seen on new magnum mausers seem rather trashy and unappealing in comparison.
Here is another quality featured PS that appeals, but I dont know where to find one of those either.

I would trade all my rifles for a Jeffery like that.

Absolutely desirable.

Super nice!

"if we can get the gun out of SA? This is up in the air as the proccess has become very tedious and lenghty"

I'd be interested if you find an expedient way. A SA farmer I talked to has two Brnos I would like. Getting them through US Customs isn't the problem, getting them out of RSA apparently is.

ALF- The gun has way too many flaws. You cannont allow it to tarnish your gun collection. The only resort is to send it to me. Nice gun and congrats!-Rob

Its a real beaut. Colour me green as well.

If only I could find a side-kick like Catherine Zeta-Jones, I'd consider cat burglary as a sideline, and ALF's gunsafe would be my #1 target! Smiler

Woodjack,
About 15 years ago I visited The Parker-Hale factory where the type of sight shown were manufactured. A fellow there told me they did not have any left. He went on to say they had scrapped bins full of them, only a few years previously, since there was no call for them any more.
I allmost wept. CRYBABY
