Ezra4570AHR Upgrade on a 375 Ruger African- UPDATE with final product pictures
Wayne and I hatched an idea to do an "upgrade" on a Ruger African in 375, like they do the upgrades for CZ rifles! It is well underway with a new stock, quarter rib etc... As soon as I get some pictures I will post them. This is really cool for the Ruger lovers out there!

JudgeGCan't wait to see it!
I have a couple of Rugers. I have never been very happy with the size of the safety (MKII) in that it is very small and when you are in a hurry, it can be difficult to operate. I've actually torn my thumb nail on it a couple of times. (For a non-DG rifle, it is just fine, btw). The Winchester wing seems to be much more user friendly. JMHO.
Does AHR have a solution for that? I'd love to get mine converted to a bigger and easier "wing".
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

31/2MakesmelaughThis is a brilliant idea...I think the Ruger African has a lot of potential. Will the work involve straightening the bolt as well?

Ezra4570I think at this point the bolt will be left as a factory original.

Ezra4570Here are some pictures of the stock. Not checkered yet, but a whole lot nicer than what Ruger puts on them.

Rob HaughtI agree that the African is a great place to start. Its 90% there. They upgraded this year to a barrel band swivel which gave it the look of a safari rifle. Now if they would just add a quarter rib.....
However thats what keeps the price point down below the RSM's. Id love to see that rifle in 9.3x62. My current project is putting an Alaskan into an HS Precision stock for a compact rifle. I cant live with the Hogue stock but like the compact size.
Im off to South Africa in July and will be taking my African back for its second trip.

Ezra4570Sorry the pics posted so small. I will post larger pictures once AHR is finished checkering

archer_375Nice! I may very well be interested. Are we talking same price point as the CZ upgrade? PM me when this project is ready to roll...

MopaneMikeBoy, just put a larger magazine in her and I'd be real happy.. I know it's just me but I feel better with at least a 4+1
My Sako Safari and 458 Lott are 5+1 I feel like I'm going in after-em with practically a assault rifle

mauser93WHOA!!!!
A thread about powerful Rugers, and no whining about the cast receiver? Goodness. Is it possible that enlightenment has taken a foothold here on AR?
27 May 2010, 06:19
archer_375AR just cost me some $$$...I boxed up my Ruger Hawkeye African 375 Ruger today and sent it to AHR. Can't wait to get the "new" rifle back.

CCMDocLooks great! Very impressive job on that quarter rib.

Though the pictures are small, the stock looks beautiful. Is that Wayne in the hip-hugger jeans and green windbreaker? Looking mighty svelte there, Wayne.

Hes gonna do a 404 J for me
And if he ever sends me pics of this mythical 500AHR, he might cost me more $$ while ensuring marital drama in my life

Idaho SharpshooterWayne comes thru again. See, you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!!
The man just does impeccable work.
HM Pope once told someone who asked "what is the secret to a Pope barrel": (paraphrase) there is no secret to my work. You just have to know how to do quality work. And, be willing to do it every time.
Wayne is there. I am most proud of the fact that he calls me his friend.

Ezra4570This is a great option for somone who doesn't have big bucks to lay out but wants something nicer than factory. It is being regulated today.

Von GruffIs it just me or does anyone else think the Ruger bolt handle could have a little less radical bend to it, but that aside that is one very nice rifle.
