I'm trying to get it sighted in.

I expect "one notch" on the scope dial is .25 MOA. -- but I'm not sure.

As near as I can tell, I'm shooting 12" to the right and about 4" low.

But I'm shooting off a sandbag, it's 98F here and the concrete pad is even hotter.

Setting the rifle down between shots, on a black gun case, on a black pickup bed. The grip is getting so hot it burns my hand. Heart is thumping from the heat, hand is burning. Sweating, uncomfortable.

We're not used to this sort of heat.

I'm keeping the ammo in the shade.

Still . . . shots are all over the place. I can't get on the 9" paper plate.

Half dozen shots and called it a day. We'll try later when it cools down.

What kind of 3-shot groups are you getting at 12" right and 4" low? If they are acceptable to you...make the scope adjustments and see where the next shot goes...and again...and again. No worries bro'.

That was his three shot group!! One in the X, one 12" low, and one 4 feet to the right!

Not getting a three shot group. There's a 9" pie plate on a cardboard backstop about 4' square. I can get on the cardboard, but not on the plate.

It's the heat and the "setup" -- sandbag and kneeling. It's not steady. Heart is thumping the reticle bad.

I have a nice Caldwell Rock, bags, a bench. I was just hoping to dial in the flyers from out on the backstop to somewhere close to the 9" plate.

Too hot! We moved the spotting glass back into the shade. Gun stock got too hot to hold.

That's what Leupold suggests, and all my other scopes dial in that way.

Oh shit! Give up and go back to a 45-70. If you slip it between the ribs you can kill an elephant with a heart shot. Yes, OH THE DRAMA OF IT ALL!!! What kind of comedy routine is this supposed to be????

It's all about "shot placement" and I can't do it in 100 F heat.

So . . . 0.25 MOA on a click for a Leupold VX I or you wanna razz me about the sunburn?

74 grains of H-4895 is a rather mild load for a 400 grain in a 458 Win.
My load for a 500 grain bullet is 74 grain of H- 4895

Sounds like some serious flinching is going on...

Good luck with your efforts.

Try shooting it at 25yds. first. Or is that at 25yds?

Yeah, I'm loading 74 gr. 4895 for the 500 gr. Hornady Interbond.

Today I'm seriously sunburned. That's part of what's going on. Coastal maritime climate, around here 80F is a "scorcher."

Tighten the buttstock...

fire one shot "like a benchgun" unmoving ont he bench, just your figer on the trigger, knowing EXACLTY where you aimed when it went off

now, reset the gun to the point you had AIMED at.. not worrying about the impact just yet...

hold the gun VERY steady while a friend adjusts the scope... and have him adjust it to the IMPACT hole...

shoot again, as this generally takes 3 shots to be dead on perfect

and TIGHTEN YOUR RINGS and buttstock
