most useless big bore

Colonel_Klinkmost useless big bore
What is the most useless big bore caliber?
I am going to say the 425 WR. The 404 Jeff does the same thing and feeds better.
13 May 2009, 06:34
<thors460>425 WR is a tack driver and depending on the action will feed flawlessly just like the 458 win alot of bad press killed its reputation

BuliwyfWell now Colonel_Klink, by your post I'd say you've picked the right name for yourself.....

<thors460>Ill agree with MR but for me 458 winnie is the way to go for a inside 100 yard shot anything over 416 rigby

Idaho Sharpshooterdo you mean we ought to scrap all of those DRs chambered in 577 or 600?
If so, I am willing to host a DR orphanage...

<thors460>After a certin point you gain nothing just recoil penetration goes down and lets face facts nothing is a charge stopper a 375 to the brain ends it the same as a 600 to the same area

snore......

The most useless big bore ? it's the one you don't use.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

tendramsPretty much every calibre competes with another that does SOMETHING better! There are redundancies all over the place that, for certain purposes, make a great calibre "useless". The .425 WR certainly has "character" that's for sure but it darn sure is good for two things.....killing stuff, and putting a smile on owners' faces.
That said, for practical purposes in the 21st century, and assuming there are darn few who make a living cropping elephants for their teeth anymore, I'd say the most "useless" rounds are those above .510.

Darn, I just declared some of my own weapons useless.

jeffeossogun grabbers LOVE posts where gunrights guys say this or that is useless.

Good Hunting,
The most useless big bore is the one not in your hand when a __________ is on a full charge towards you. ( fill in the blank with your favorite dangerous game animal)

So, you have no actual experience with any of these cartidges, or hunting in Africa, but you want to express your opinion anyway?
You sir, are a nitwit.
In my opinion, there is no such thing as a USELESS cartridge, as almost all of them are fun to own and shoot!

No rifle is completely useless even if you only use it to prop open the patio door. The least useful rifle to me is one that is too heavy to carry all day after elephant, has too much recoil for me to shoot accurately, doesn't fit me or doesn't have any good solids available for it.

My memory is nothing to brag about and I can't check my handloading books since I lost them with my house but,I thought I saw a recipe for a 460 Weatherby with a 600 grain solid.Wouldn't that make a pretty good penetrator at say 2400 fps?
My experience level is low to poor so I'm honestly just asking.

But the thread was started by Col. Klink!

Maybe Sgt. Schulz will be along to straighten things up a bit?
