RIP
550 Gibbs going to Africa...
Paul,
You will be impressed!
I think Rich has proven the strength and infrangibility of those brass solids on wet sandbags, and frozen wet sandbags too.

The .395/330-grain S&H Brass FN will beat the GSC .395/340-grain Copper FN in the Iron WaterBoard Buffalo penetration tests. Both tracked straight and true, but S&H got the cigar on that one.

I am waiting for some of his "cataloged item" .729/1000-grain Brass FN. thumb

2150fps is all you are going to need.. HEH, which is why and how I load the 550 express.

Neal sent me some of that brass, and I dropped a .585 bullet in it, and called Boomie and told him (after I told Neal) that it would need a belt swapped in!

The 505 gibbs, which is a rimless 577/500 NE, funny enough wound up giving birth.. the 550 flanged and 550 gibbs... and funny as it can be, the same test barrel for the 550 flanged became the 550 Gibbs barrel!

AR is the BEST site in the world... and for the Bigbore wildcats born and bred here are outstanding

LOL remember those gopher holes Rodney made rotflmo

Nah... he needs to go with the "Whomper" loads or he should have borrowed yer 550 express or the 550 magnum. Shoot them beauties with a 30-06 trajectory for some plains gameBOOM Big Grin

No hang fires with all the powder in a "Whomper" load. Just a big fireball!!

I had a North Fork 450gr .458" flat nose solid penetrate, from high on the rump, the whole length of the spine, out the back of the neck, back into the rear of the head, through the skull and brain and out the boss. That bullet left the muzzle at 2200fps. That buff was brained from the rear, no bullet recovery since it fully penetrated the boss.

Looking at those 550 bullets, I think you'd need two buff standing end to end to have even a chance at getting a bullet back.

I have no doubt he is doing fine after watching him shoot at the "bubba" gathering at Bayou Rifles. He handles that cannon like I handle a 270.

My PH thought the cartridge with the 615 at 2150-2200 might be perfect as a "stopper".
I will test it on Ele next time.
