So after countless 458s,460s,500s,2-577s,a 585,7-600s,2-700s,a 8 bore,7 bore and a 4 bore we have decided on a New Custom Lil .500 (.50) Compact All Weather Carbine at 36" oal & approx 6 pds..Winchester 70 CF of course..Michael @ B&M is hooking me up tu2 and the the due date is Thanksgiving. dancing
Looks like the Tiny/Bighole (oxymoron intended) will get broken in on some Cajun Hogs and then maybe a Alaskan Brownie,Wyoming Bison or even some Botswana Buff?! shocker
For starters some 300s at 2400 should make mash of piggy's grizzle shields and innards...Heavier game we can go heavier too! Dr.Michael has much experience with these bullet ballet's on bigger bones and flesh!
So who else here has this caliber ?
What is appealing to me is this Super Short Action is based on the WSSM family of Short but Potent Fat Cartridges!
So these older bones wont be dealing with all that Recoil of years past...if I want that I will just go visit my Pal Cal in Alaska for a smogasboard of Big Bores! BOOM hilbily

You will enjoy it
They are a hoot to shoot and can be oh, so compact!
It will feel like a toy, but you will have the power to kill mighty beasts.

Thanks Boomstick! tu2 Yes I always preferred the lightweight heavyweights including a 8 pd .600 and a 6pd 500Jeffery shocker ....So this will be a Welterweight I guess with big hands! Lol.... Should be fun and only devastating on one end! BOOM

I would love to shoot that featherweight 500 Jeffery BOOM
Michael made short, standard and magnum length action versions as well. If you enjoy that one, maybe try a larger one as well. I think the 2.5" version and the 700 grain Ranger Rick bullets would be two and a half tons of fun in a small ish package. shocker

Good luck with your new boomer I have a 50B&M
It shoots a 500 grain solid at 2150 FPS in a 7lb rifle definitely rocks you. The rifle eats scopes I followed michaels suggestion and use a Nikon 1-4 with the Leupold quick release mounts . Good luck

Yes I have had many many Light and Super Light Big Bores in the recent past from a 4.5 ps. 416RM to a 8pd .600 and even a 12pd .700....and many in between! My Fav was a 6 pd-36"oal 500 Jeffery which took 2 Cape and a Brownie in 2008...
So this one is a nice compromise and will still do some damage on the other end as Michael (B&M) has tested it in Africa and Australia! 6pds and 36oal pushing 300s at 2400 should make a big hole in Porky Pig and many a Nutria down here in Cajun Land!
And yes he warned me about the scopes but this one shouldn't be as "disruptive" as its BIG brothers !

I love my 50 B&M SS! It has taken a couple black bears and lots of rabbits etc. You will love it too!! I think I am shooting 325gr raptors but don't remember for sure. It is definitely a hammer though.

The biggest problem with it truthfully is when I go hunting I have a different rifle in mind and then somehow when loading up the rifle I intend to bring gets left home and the Super Short comes along instead.

My 8.5 lb Lott actually self destructed. Wayne rebuilt it and added weight so hopefully it will survive. The Swarovski scope has taken hundreds of full power rounds both at light and now at 9.5 lbs with no ill effect.

Sounds like an interesting concept may be the best use I can think of for the ss controller round m70 action

I had a 5.5 pd 458 Lott made by Bijou Creek who actually made half dozen super light weight Big Bores....not to mention several 50/110 SA revolvers!
As far as Scopes go it seems the Leupolds had the worst problems with these extreme kickers!
Thanks for the info on your Lott

That’s crazy I’m 6’2” 225 lbs a lott that light would be unbelievable on the recoil scale. I don’t think anything would survive on that including the stock and any fixtures. You would have to have nerves of steel to light that off and not flinch! Impressive my 8.5 lb plus 1.5 lb scope and rings was brutal enough! The extra pound made it noticeably more shootable. I am interested in seeing this Mighty Mouse gun!

I cant post pics on here so send me your email and you will get to see my 4.25 pd 416Rem Mag,the 5.5pd 458 Lott ,the 500 Jeffery that is 6 pd and a few ounces,a 8.5 pd 600 Overkill...There is more..anyway my 700 Bolt at 11pds was brutal without the brake..but the worst was a pair of Weatherbys of 6 to 7 pds I had built in the mid 80s...both sheared scope gases and the 460 split the web on the Browns Prexisoon glass stock! Then I added brakes and it was amazing how that tamed them! I am 6ft 240 pds and a former bodybuilder and muscle head! Lol
The trick is to never fight the recoil, but go with the flow! My 4 bore double at a modest 27pds was a heavy brutal shove, unlike the fast recoil of the light magnums...I was 13 years old with my first 10ga double and at the boat launch I dared to pull both barrels and I did! 140pds of me went backwards and tripped over a pirogue and fell on my ass and the double landed in the mud, amongst a group of laughing beyond control fellow hunters and friends!
If you want a fine light or heavy Big Bore Bijou Creek can do it..his brakes are also amazing as my 16" barreled 8.5 pd 600 was a piece of cake!
Wayne at AHR has built me several 600s of various weights and also a 700 of 11 pds! Highly recommend them both!
