Long story short, I've been looking into buying my first big bore but don't want to spend a small fortune. A family friend offered to sell me a pre-64 Winchester model 70 in 375 H&H for $600. I've personally shot this rifle and the action is in good condition. The stock is not the original but honestly I was planning on having a custom stock made later on anyways.

To me, this seems to be a great deal for my first big bore but it almost seems to good to be true. Am I missing something here or should I pull the trigger?

Great buy on "the rifleman's rifle". I have a 375 pre-64 M70 too, very pleasant to shoot. Watch ebay or other auction sites for a pre-inletted blank:

Jump on it, the action alone is worth $600!

Buy it now...do not delay.

And remember this 'family friend' at Christmas too.

If it is a 'pre-'64' with controlled-round feed, it is a decent price.

You kiddin' me? A pre-64 Model 70 in .375? Snap it up. It's worth close to twice that price.

DON"T BUY IT!!! it is an obvious swindle. This should be reported to the authorities asap. Please pm me with the miscreant's name and phone number and I will take care of reporting the situation to the proper authorities.

It's a done deal. I'm very excited about this rifle. Over time I plan on having a custom stock made out of some locally grown black walnut or maple.

Is it actually an action made before 1964. Or the crf pre-64 style action? If the later then it is a good price. If the former it is a swindle of some sort

Jeffe,

Doesn't really matter at that price. One's a great deal, the other's a steal.
