Good Ol' Harry is starting to drill the bores of .395 barrels.

Back in mid December 2006, when I ordered, Harry said it would take "two or three months to get the tooling for something new," and I said "yep, gotta giv'em some time to scratch their heads over it," and Harry chuckled over the phone.

Gerard Schultz provided a nifty barrel profile that Harry is reproducing for Gerard.

I liked it so much I told Harry to do mine that way too, changed my standard No.5 sporter contour to the "GSC Profile." If I can find a postable copy of the specs, I will do so.

Prof242 has an order in too, so maybe he will tell us about his barrel profile choice.

Well, that is three of us in the whole wide world who are getting .395 barrels. A nice start on a "happening." thumb

52 year-old professional small boy here. I grew up watching Mighty Mouse Saturday morning TV cartoons. The Shadow was way before my time and your Dad's, I'll bet. On this forum, only Ray Atkinson is old enough to actually have listened to that original run radio show.

my dad is 67

if you were pumping out kids at 19 they and i would be the same age...

nothing wrong with being old or older as long as you have more and stronger friendships that only time and experiences can make.

there is nothing worse than an old dude with no adventures to recant or friends to listen.

when you go get the big 5 with yer 395...that will be a good adventure to share...uncle rip Wink

It ran from 1930 to 1954. I just missed it. It ended the year I was born. But boom stick's Pop would have been about 14 y.o. when it ended, long before boom stick was a gleam in his eye.

The Shadow was quite the crime fighter, able to speak any language, break any code, defy gravity, and become invisible with his "famous ability to 'cloud men's minds' ". Super Dick! rotflmo

Great news RIP! When I talked to Harry about my barrel, he said it would be awhile yet. I was figuring a month or so. I asked him to make my barrel in a contour heavier than the Rem magnums, about like the Ruger ones. We'll see how it turns out. I think I'll probably be carrying this much more than shooting it. Thank God for PAST shoulder pads.

Hmmm, yer only 52? Eeker I graduated from HS in 65 and was in Viet Nam for the Tet Offensive in 68 salute(tour was 67-68). Well youngster... clap I still feel 38...oops that's my ex-wife's age. (and she wants me back)

prof242,
Yep, I missed that one too! MY POP was at Da Nang, AFB '66 to '67.

I was at West Point '72-'73, but I pulled out after they announced we were quitting Viet Nam. I was active duty Army during the Viet Nam war, cadet/plebe. Wink 4years as a USAF FS and ER doc was all the fun I could stand, later.

None of the services could house break me. Some professional small boys are hard to potty train.

Harry said he got tooling in right after he talked to you.

Soon.

And I did a year and a half of a psychiatry residency defore I bailed on that.

I had the highest score on the "In-Service Training Exam" of all 4 years of the residency after my first year. Posted by ID number.

I figured they weren't teaching much in the last 3 years of that residency. I read the writing on the wall. Plus, one child psychiatry professor committed suicide by hanging, and one 4th year "chief" resident overdosed on Elavil, while I was hanging out there. Those people were crazy themselves. The blind leading the blind. Wink

I had to go back to real medicine after that, which is afterall about half psychiatry and psychology, in the everyday practice of prolonging life and relieving suffering, standing in to take the blame for Acts of God, and trying not to commit any acts of god yourself.

Well, that's my life story. salute

Understand fully. Had to get out of psych myself. Seen too much.
Hey, on the "right" topic...reamers. Who is doing yours? I've been thinking of getting a basic .375 Ruger reamer with interchangeable pilots. But then again, having this "one and only" for awhile makes me think of getting just a standard one. Any suggestions?

prof242,
Either way would work fine. Since the .395 Ruger is your new racket, maybe get Dave Manson to make a dedicated reamer, and give everyone else the ability to order a reamer from Dave with you having done the founding work.

www.mansonreamers.com

.395 GSC: I sent Gerard's digital reamer drawing to Dave Manson, requesting a finish reamer with floating pilot, and case sizer/roughing reamer to be done properly according to Dave Manson's experience.

.395 Tatanka: I sent my my own brass and throat drawing/specs to Dave Manson for the .395 Tatanka, to be translated into a finish reamer (floating pilot) and go-guage. Awaiting use by Stuart Satterlee on a stainless McGowen barrel of the Mauser-ish GSC profile.

398 Lapua: I also have on order a neck and throat reamer with floating pilot, that will be used, along with a Dave Kiff .338 Lapua reamer with floating pilot, to create the 398 Lapua, just as with my previous .375, .423, and .458 Lapua wildcats. Of course, you know, the .375 Lapua is also called the .375 Tornado or 9.5x69 Tornado in Germany.

We need another person working on the .395 Wildcats besides Gerard and I.

Good to get this some publicity from prof242 for the .395. If you want to talk throats and necks, doing so right here could be inspirational.

Of course, to do a .395 Ruger reamer requires having the official specs for a .375 Ruger reamer. Apparently someone has made one for Brockman, who made Ray Atkinson's .416 Ruger, already.

You are on the cutting edge there, prof242. thumb

"Once more into the..."
Reminds me of the first time I stepped out of an airplane at altitude. Yeah, had a 'chute, static line was hooked, but...it were a loooong way down!
Will have to check on that one made for Brockman. I'm also thinking of doing other cartridges on the Ruger case, so might as well get the floating pilot.

Well,

The only reason I'm not building a .395 is because the international Back Woods Bait & Tackle franchise does not carry ammo yet.

They should get in touch with ld custom.

I'm missing the boat of the world's best bore.

Emailed Manson today on his suggestions for the reamer, whether solid pilot or interchangeable. Tried emailing Brockman, but their server was down. May try tonight.
Nowwwww, considering our resident bubbas, how about chambering with a drill bit and hand drill? Roll Eyes
