FInally finished up my "big" rifle, meant to be a larger twin to my 300 RUM. Its a remeington 700 chamered in 375 RUM. Started out as a rustbucket 8mm mag. Screwed on a new shielen barrel and dropped it into a High Tech Specialties stock. Parkerized the metal and gave the stock a coat of zolotone. Turned out really well. A set of warne maxima bases and Q/D rings and a nikon monarch 3-9x40 that I had laying around to finish it out. I'll probably replace the nikon with a little better glass down the road. Finished out at a nice 7lbs 9oz scoped. thats about right for a walking hunting rifle. Recoil wasnt bad but I haven't gotten a chance to shoot for accuracy yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot a bear with it before they all go to bed for the year. Going to try out some 270gr TSX @ 2900fps or maybe some 260 accubonds, should be a shooter.

Sounds like you've built yourself a great rifle. I built myself one about six years ago and have taken it to Africa twice. I'm getting 3 shot MOA groups with 300 gr TSX bullets at 2800 fps and 270 gr TSX bullets at 3040 fps. NRA Endowment Life Member

looks nice. under 8 lbs yikes. I added a mercury recoil reducer to my 378 to make it heavier.

I shot it today, accuracy wasn't great yet, was getting 1.5" three shot groups at 100 yards. The rifle is entertaining to shoot off the bench. It was the first time I was actually glad to only have 10 rounds of ammo at the range. Might have to break down and put a muzzle break.

That load is closer to a max 375H&H.. That rifle has to be violent to shoot and will send to the crapper a few scopes. Also leave a few Leupold rings in eyebrows. Good luck with it and hang on . Mike

The first time I took my .375 RUM to the range it only took 8 rounds to convince me that it was not a fun gun to shoot. I re-stocked it with a stock that fits me and had a KDF muzzle brake installed on it. Prior to it's second trip to Africa, I installed a mechanical recoil reducer in it's stock. It's felt recoil now is not much more than my 7mm Rem mag. On my last trip to South Africa, I shot 3 animals from a prone position and I didn't feel any recoil discomfort. I also have a KDF muzzle brake and a mercury reducer in the stock of my .300 Weatherby. Yesterday at the range I shot 18 rounds through it, 13 off the bench and through my chrony screens, and the felt recoil of it is less than the recoil from my 7mm Rem mag.
