If I read it right, I am looking, ballistically, at a .410" bullet at 2050fps. I can download my 416 Rigby to that level...sort of like the 44magnum/44spl. Rich

Ruger barrels will be whatever your dreams want them to be ........ in reality, they'll never be anything. That seems to be the Ruger way - advertise but never produce. ____________________________ .470 & 9.3X74R Chapuis' Tikka O/U 9.3X74R Searcy Classics 450/.400 3" & .577 C&H .375 2 1/2" Krieghoff .500 NE Member Dallas Safari Club

Told ya Now we'll see what Ruger does. Butch said his barrels were .4105" "Is it that big a deal?......001?" With gummy bear bullets, it probably isn't. With monos, that is a HUGE difference. They had to compromise on the bullet diameter. MOST 3" are .411 and MOST 3 1/4 are .408 but there are some 3 1/4" that are .411 and some 3" that are .408. I really wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

Wait'n to see what Ruger does. No, I won't make two sizes that close together other than as a custom (10 box min). When everyone finaly has their shit together, I'll convert my 405 barrel to 450-400 and see how it goes. I will decide after that, what I make, if anything.

Vapo, just do what Gerlich did, have a long tapered bore. Load 6.5s and shoot out 6s. You will get higher velocities that way. Hog Killer IGNORE YOUR RIGHTS AND THEY'LL GO AWAY!!! ------------------------------------ We Band of Bubbas & STC Hunting Club, The Whomper Club

My 450/400 J has .411 left barrel, .412 rt. barrel when slugged. It has had a lot of rounds fired through the right barrel in the preceding 70+ years! Just for the hell of it, I loaded up some of the Woodleigh .408 bullets over my normal loads, and at 50 and 100 yds, they shot just about as well as the .411's. Chrono velocities were only around 20 fps slower. I'd guess that the Hornady's should work out fine, at least for me. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

That is very interesting data on the loaded rounds...2050 fps at the muzzle and 1815 at 100 yards... The .405 Winchester starts the same bullet out at 1900 fps...so I guess what this says is that if you can shoot a buffalo at 100 yards with a .450/400 NE you can also shoot him at about 65 with a .405 Winchester with the same results...
