once in a while i get a good idea... first the non wildcat... with the flat nose 375 bullets made for lever actions you could make the 375 ruger work in a short action 255 gr barnes o talk about a woods cart! in a light handy gun! neck it down to 35 and shoot a 358 ruger with pistol bullets out of a 350 rem mag do the same for 41, 44, 444, 45 pistol bullets... neck it to 458 and have a super 45-70 and shoot it in a 450 marlin rechambered blr ect (the blr 450 marlin has the same oal as the wsm's) that should push 500 grain pills @ 2200 fps! over 100 grains of capacity and pistol bullets or 45-70 bullets in a short action is a cooooool idea imho i dont have a name for them yet...i'll try to get creative in the morning i think the 45-70 version and the 375 short action ideas are the best... turn a 450 marlin into a 450 ruger, go from 500 @ 1600 to 500 @ 2200 with a ream job 600 fps gain! 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. boom stick, I have used the 220 grain Hornadys in the 375 H&H and seated to the cannelure. 40 grais of H4227, no fillers, real good accuracy and average of 2100 f/s By the way, hw is the 470 AR coming along Mike

all my fun stuff is on hold...i have to come up with property taxes right now...the govt. is funny that way...you dont pay, no home. can someone stuff a flat nose 375 in a 375 ruger case for a pic please??? the idea of the 450 ruger is still doable but it can easily be done with 458 win mag and 45-70 bullets too but less case capacity obviously...the advantage being no custom reamers and dies ect 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Don't know if this helps...but it would look like a bigger version of the 356 Winchester factory ammo

Why would seating a pistol bullet in an original case warrant a new cartridge name??? IMHO, I always thought using a longer throat and seating bullets out further then calling it by a different name was a stretch, but this seems a little over the top. Anyhoo, interesting potential application of the 375 Rugers (and its eventual extended family). I think you will find the that the 225'ish grain 375 bullets were not designed for the kind of velocities you are talking about though, and deep seating 500grain bullets well into a 458 Ruger case will use up a good chunk of that extra case capacity. Cheers, Canuck

Canuck 220 Hornady flat noses are great on roos from the 375 H&H and the 225 Spire points are great from 378s. Not sure if that was what boom stick had in mind Agree with you that using different bullets does not change the name of the cartridge. boom stick, put $1 aside for every post and then you will have the 470 AR ora 458 and load with 400 grain Speers at 2000-2100. 70 grains of 4064 will be about 2000 and 70 grains of 3031 will be about 2100 fron 22 inch barrel. seating depths and pistol bullets does not change the name i agree...necking up or down ect does. if you load the flat nose 375's and stick it in a short action it does not change the name but the ability to is cool i think. a non wildcat is how i dubbed it therefore no name change. turn a wsm into a heck of a light handy woods gun with no wildcat issues with a new barrel. if you shoot a 41 mag or a 44 mag and want to have a woodsgun in the same cal it is kinda neet. doing a 45-70 bullet version is cool. yes it would eat up powder room that is why i said 500@ 2200 not 2300 which would be reasonable imho but 2150 is perfectly fine too. shooting 405's @ 2300 could be done too. and like i said you could do the same with win mag brass but less capacity. thanks for the input. yes it would make a good roo gun...ausie ausie ausie! 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S.
