I'm looking to build a stainless rifle for moose and grizz.I'm having trouble deciding between the 2. I already have a ruger mk11 stainless action and a laminate stock for the project, as well I have dies for the taylor.I've had a taylor before and liked it, as well I've had 7 or 8 375's.I would shoot 300gr-350gr bullets out of the taylor and 270-300gr out of the ruger.Range isn't to much of a concern as all my moose over the years have been no more than about 225yds.. and grizz slightly less.
any thoughts?

Go for broke, why build a 375 Ruger when you can buy it from the factory set up and made for Alaska,etc. Then build the 416 Taylor on the components you already have, plus you have the dies.

Both is better.

....If you arn,t going to be wanting the 416 for shooting Deer ,sheep, bou,goats,wolves ect @300-400 plus yards I would go with the Taylor !...Especially if the range gets reduced to a few feet .,.,.,And like Dirklawyer says you can buy a custom built 375 Ruger off the shelf at most any gun store in Alaska ......I have been trying to think of anyone I know who has been disappointed with their 416 Taylor and can;t .,.I,ve had 2 of them and the round is just about ideal ....If ammo was available on the shelves of the gun stores I frequent ...I wouldn,t have had a 416 Remington built ...I probably wouldn,t have had a 458 built or maybe even ever had a 458 .....The Taylor is that good a round for Alaska...The 4500 ft lbs it easily produces with 20 " or shorter barrels is a real killer .... .........But not too much on the shooter ...

No,I would just use the for my main mtn grizz rifle as well as my moose rifle.I may take it bison hunting every few years as well.I have other rifles for sheep,caribou etc...I like the 375 ruger because it may be alittle more versitile, but I don't ever shoot over 300yds and rarely over 200 so I don't need a ton of versatility.Like I said I've had the taylor before and liked it alot.Do you guys find the resale of a 416 taylor is decent?

.375 ruger is a great looking cartridge and gun.

The Taylor is a wildcat and if wildcats are no problem then why not just neck the 375 Ruger case up to .416, thats what I did and I more than pleased with it..It will out perform the Taylor by a good deal, and all on a Mauser action, even used the original mauser box modified and cleaned up, and it feeds good and makeing a nice light, slim, trim, rifle..I am making the stock now.

I have one of each, and love them both.

I think the 375 is the more versatile of the two on paper at least, but I don't really think I'd be left wanting with either...especially for moose, elk, bear.

I can't imagine being without one of them either though.

.....I think Ray has it right..,.,If a rifle is going to be built ....It has greater case capacity while holding the same # of rounds .,.,It should do velocity wise before what the Rem . will but the long action isn,t needed....

The big rumor is the 416 Ruger to come out at the shot show...Wait a few months before you decide...then have a switch barrel in 375 and 416 Ruger

but, if you want factory ammo, go with the 375

Is the 458AR brass made from rem ultra mag brass?
do you have to anneal necks or anything special?

You fireform and trim 375 rum brass, its "all inside" of a rum case. I made a chop saw out of a harbour frieght mini saw, and takes about 3 seconds to shorten my brass
