I've had a idea for some time and hopefully I can get some help. Can the Encore action hold up to the 50-140 Sharps cartridge? Where could I find a encore barrel chambered for this? "Molotov Cocktails don't leave fingerprints" -Dr. Ski

Metalsmith, the action strength is not a problem the 50-140 is a low pressure round compared to some magnum rounds the Encore handles. My best guess would be SSK ind. if their still in business. Hope this helps you out. Charlie

The Encore action easily takes over 65Kpsi. It has apparantly been proof tested to over 90Kpsi according to some very reliable sources. The 50-140 can easily be done and I think Virgin Valley used to offer that chambering. SSK can probably set you up.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Pure pressure is only one issue in considering the suitability of an action for any specific cartridge. The other issue is that of square inches that the pressure acts on, the area of the bolt face that the cartridge head covers. Call SSK and asking him if you will have any problems with that. http://www.sskindustries.com/ "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. The encore action has held a 12GaFH short round generating a pressure tested 35KPSI with a .815 diameter case head. You can do the bolt thrust calculations yourself. The action remained closed and all critical action dimensions were confirmed to be the same as before the round was fired. The Thrust calculations are well within its design limitations. No load for The 50-140 even when hot rodded is even remotely in that league.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Thank you for all your help! I'm going to contact J.D. Jones this afternoon. After finding out from Robgunbuilder about the 12GaFH round being fired in a encore, I don't think I'll have any more doubts as to the integrity of the action! "Molotov Cocktails don't leave fingerprints" -Dr. Ski

Just to be clear it was a 12GaFH Short(35Kpsi) not the big kahuna(65Kpsi). Still the 50-140 is a great round for the Encore. Recoil won 't be a big issue either. Neat Idea! Consider a 1:15 twist and troat it to shoot .50 BMG pulls. With 50 gr of XMP5744 it will be a blast!-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!
