richjBig bore auto or lever
OK it's a 44Mag. 240gr HP, WW296 and lil'gun.
The scope on the Marlin is a bit too much, it is an EFR so I can use it down to 10yds. The Ruger is a Cenntenial.

AtkinsonOn those pistol caliber on usp to the 30-30 for instance the need for any scope over 3X is without substance, those are 100 to 150 yard guns. This of course is my opinion based on my own experience, and many folks these days would take issue, and they have that right for sure.

Agree Ray; a smaller scope on both rifles would be a much better fit in both form and function.

crsheltonNice looking rifles you have there.
My son has a big bore AR 15 in .458 Socom and it is accurate and deadly effective.
My big bores are levers and a sxs double rifle.
All effective on big game.

richjI think the Ruger has a Redfield 4x. The Leupy on the Marlin was just to have some fun at 50ft indoors. I have a Bushnell 25 I may try on it.

p dog shooterI just put a leupold 1x4 on my Ruger 96 I like using 1x4s on my closer range guns.
On 4x one can shoot effectively out a ways also.
On 1X they are very fast up close.
I find dot non power dot sights are mostly useless in lower light as one eyes focus on the dot and one can not see much beyond it.
I have a couple and I am in seriously thinking about replacing them with normal scopes as they are mostly useless in the last minutes of legal shooting light.

AtkinsonI agree with P dog shooter, I have no use for red dots, battery operated anything, much prefer a low power scope on most all rifles as a matter of fact..3X, 4X, fixed suit me on any rifle, and I do have a few 2x7x28 Leupolds (now discontinued)that are the same size as a 4X Leupold..but Im a hunter not a target shooter.
I also have a 4x12 Leupold on a heavy barreled 223 for rock chucks across the Snake River Canyon or for a PDog varmint hunt. but that's a different set of rules.
