2.5 Jeff in 416 or 375
I think the 375 is called a Howell. 375 would be cake, hold a Rum reamer back and bob the dies. Can any one run these through a load program and come up with H2O cap. Guessing these would run with or out perform a 375HH and can be stuffed in an 06 action. The 416 Aagaard looks very nice. A little more cap and shoulder with the Jeff brass. Do not ask me all the whys and what fors because I do not know. I woke up with this on the brain. PA whitetails is the biggest thing I hunt LOL. I think it is separation anxiety. I separted my last factory barrel from the last stock rifle I own. Gonna be weird not having a rifle in the works.

Howdy
We've done this to 416, 458, or 470, to fit in a standard length (ruger) actions, using rum brass as it's 1/4 the cost of jeffe brass ..

the 30s are an 07 project, but do a search on 375 AR..

do a search here in big bores on the 416 AR, 458 AR, or 470 AR...

or look at my website in my signature

416 - 2480fps with a 400gr
458 - 2320fps with a 500gr
470 - 2380fps with a 500 gr (max load for that powder

with designs from .223 to .475 bullets in progress

email me offline for info
here's a link to them
http://www.weaponsmith.com/AR-rounds1.html

and they look like this

375 Dakota, 416 Howell is what you're talking about.
There's a beeeeyootiful old Mauser in 9.3 "Dakota" if you have $k laying around.
As far as capacities, the case generally will hold the same or a bit more than a blown-out H&H of same caliber (e.g., 7mm D vs 7mm STW, 416 Howell vs 416 Rem.) That's at 3 1/3" so, yeah, '06 action works great.
What you need, friend, is a "470 Dakota" on a pre '64 M70. ;-P

BB,
yes, if you start with teh 404 and go those lines, you wind up with a howell.. I have spent some time on the phone with Ken, who thinks the AR rounds are neat and wants them in the next edition of his book. The howell cases are generally ONE or TWO grains(1 to 1.75%) more than the 375HH version of the same case.. the ARs are ~4%.

Right on. I meant that it was what Blueprint was talking about.
That 416 Howell could do with less taper, too.
I figure, 2.55", .40" neck, 3.34"COL, 92g water under a 1.25" bullet, and the 416 Rem to 3.6" gets you about 82g, giving the 404 case about a 9% increase.
Your's will hold a bit more, no doubt.
(You may have noticed, I'm not a big fan of case water capacities in a vaccuum....)

BB,
I understand you not being a fan, however stating case cacpities WITH a bullet is kinda pointless... after all, every bullet is different lenghs... from AGS to Barnes TSX and everything inbetween.

kinda of like saying "mpg with load" vs "mpg of a car"

I don't think a variable of case with a bullet gives you a direct comparison. Like BC (which changes with speed) or SD... it may not be perfect, but it is what convention dictates..

and, frankly, empty case capacity doesn't vary with seating depth... it's a function of the CASE not the LOAD

WHAT?
Dude! The whole point is to give a direct comparison of useable capacity with a given bullet in two cases at their respective COL's.
I can make a 308 case match the '06 by lengthening the neck enough, but with its 2.8" COL, it'll never help.

bb,
I disagree that OAL load capacity is a good tool, but we all make our own choices.

The 30s and the 50 are going to be an 07 event...

I am thinking that it will be the 8mm, 9mm, 9,3, and 9,5mm... though we'll probably have to weed that out... I just can't seen do another (yawn) 308 magnum as there's just no gain on factory round there.. BECAUSE there's so many

Hmmm. Jeffe...Iffin ya don't mind, put in a plug for Dave E if you're ever talking to Howell again. I can't believe he rejected the 470 Mbogo for his last edition...not enough people using it (or something like that) was the excuse, apparently.

Cheers,
