My buddy acquired an NEF slug barrel the other day cheap, and knowing I like cheap big bores, told me about it.

I know RMC makes good brass, and casting bullets wouldn't be a big deal.

If I shot with 3" brass and reamed the throat of the gun out, what pressures would I be limited to (on a rifle frame) and what velocities are we talking?

I assume both are past what I can handle, which would allow me to practice and extend my recoil limits.

Also, what dies would be used in this case, and do the RMC cases use rifle or shotgun primers?

Talk to RMC about the primers and reloading dies AND read through the "12GaFH"...all your questions are answered plus reloading data etc.

RMC brass is thicker(plus very pricey) and the whole process is a little more complicated than just loading up and cranking off some rounds, so the information already covered in those posts will give you additional insights into the process.

I found for my purposes that using regular 12Ga 3 and 3.5" plastic shotshells will produce all the pizzazz and recoil I can stand. I use my 12Ga shotshell reloading press to reload fired cases. I can't quite get the velocity of Ed's shooters, but my gun doesn't weigh 25+/- lbs either...only 11.5 and I can get to 100 plus lbs of recoil in a NY second.

I have some of Robs 50BMG brass and made a sizer and crimper which works for that brass but I think RMC's brass dies would work also.

The safe limits are no more than what factory slug/shotshell parameters, but all that is covered in the 12Gafh posts by Ed Hubel.

Take a look at the chamber walls on the NEF and decide just how valuable your various pieces and parts are when you get to thinking about pressure and velocity.

Cute bastards and the 50 BMG brass thickness works out for .729" slugs.

A little history! The 12gafh short was actually 3.5 inches and created when my first 3.8 inch cases cracked during fireforming. I actually used them that way for many years. When the 3.5 inch cases cracked they became the 3" 12gafh super short. The 2" version is also known as the 12gafh CB. All can be fired in the Full length 12gafh chamber.-Rob
