The Winchester. Glossy wood and pencil barrels don't do it for me.

It's not even close, brownings are a POS. Go with the Winchester.

Man, something must of changed. A buddy of mine had a medallion with boss and it was like a swiss watch AND looked wonderful. Has their skills gone down that much?

If those are your only choices, I'd skip it. Some may like the new Mod 70 in a skinny barrel and composite stock. You also said that price was no object, look further.

I didnt want someone saying, save the $200 and buy the winchester or, save the extra $200 and put it into gunsmithing.

Get the mdl 70, no worries. The only things I did to it were; replace the factory pad with a prefit Pachymar Decelerator and have the stock painted in a black/gray web. Made it look and feel 100% better. Had a hunter on buffalo last year with his Browning, it locked up on the 4th shot and he never got it working again while he was there(the buff required 8 shots)

I'd say go with the Browing. Never been a Winchester fan (and yes I know they're the same company now). I have an A-bolt II w/boss in .375. It is one sweet gun...and yes I happen to LIKE glossy wood and pencil barrells. The A-bolt is very accurate and recoil is not bad. Only thing I would trade it for is a classic Browning Safari grade from the 60's or 70's (just not a salt gun).

Can someone tell me what the Boss system does, besides make the gun really loud? Please don't tell me that it reduces recoil. No way, not in the way it's design could recoil reduction happen. So what does it do?

The A-bolt is a pie metal, paper thin extracter, push feed, with a trigger block safety.

But besides that they are pretty nice.

I've had an A-bolt in .375 and wouldn't ever onwn another one.

As far as the Winchester well...They have their problems in the quality control department but at least you are starting off with a solid proven no BS design.

Whoever mentioned that the M-70 stainless composite has a skinny barrel has either never seen one or is a major league crack user those things have frickin truck axle for a barrel!!

You can screw it back and forth on the barrel and change the harmonics. Supposedly it will let you tune the gun to the load instead of tuning the load to the gun. Besides that, it gives you an ugly ported thing to look at.

NO BROWNING. Unless it is one of the old FNs. THe A-Bolt and Medallion are junk.

The title for screwed in truck axles belong to the very first 1st Generation RSM's. Win's still have a skinny barrel.

I have one of the new winchester M70s in 375. Its a great gun. Very accurate and ultra reliable. The one thing I didn't like was the synthetic stock. I replaced it with a hogue overmolded stock and like it much better. It does have quite a heavy barrel, I wouldn't mind it being a little lighter, at 10+ pounds it gets mighty heavy to carry around all day.

I consider the Browning A-Bolt to be one of the poorest-built factory rifles ever developed. It's made of numerous sub-assemblies, rolled-pins, potmetal, mousetrap springs, a puny afterthought of an extractor, and assorted junk parts. It is NOT a quality rifle -- not my any stretch of the imagination. Comparing it to Browning's fine old Belgian-built 'High-Power' is a ridiculous and pathetic exercise.

Many of them shoot well out of the box, and some A-Hole versions might shine like the hood of your truck, but such things are not a yardstick of durability or quality construction.

By all means, get the Model 70..........

another vote for the M-70......and let them keep the boss.

Get the trigger adjusted and the barreled action glass bedded and go get that buffalo.

Go with the M70 Safari Express. I almost bought the M70 Stainless 375 H&H until I figured up the cost.

New M70 SS = $720 + $400 (Mcmillan Stock) + $100 (new rear sight) = $1220 without gunsmithing.

New M70 Safari Express = $900 with an nice stock, and it comes with the NECG rear sight I was going put on the stainless.

The SS version may be a bit cheaper initially, but you'll spend alot of money getting that gun up to the specs of a NIB Safari Express. Both may require additional gunsmithing.

i'm gunna dog pile on the m70 just make it a stailess for me please.

I would go with the Winchester hands down...

My real choice would be a Browning Safari (Mauser actioned) from yesteryear or a Pre 64 Mod. 70, those were real guns...

The A-Bolt Browning? The stock for firewood and bend the barrel for a branding iron would be my advise...

Ray, there is a salt stock Browning Safari .375 on either gunbroker or gunsamerica for $875. It has been there a while. Make the guy an offer, build a new stock, replace the sights, and it will be a nice package.

I have an a-bolt in 30/06 and have had no problems at all for 15 years of use,hard use.I work in the bush and have it with me at most times..good accurate hard kicking gun,When buying the 375 I went with a cz-550 and have not regretted it.Big heavy gun with little recoil.An a-bolt in 375 makes me flinch thinking about it.I think I would go with the crf winchester over the a-bolt in that caliber.

Winchester at least you have an great action you can play with down the track, Browning's crap....

I just wish I could still shoot a .375 H&H! Arthritis can kill a lot of fun!

If I had to choose one of those two, the Mod 70 would get my vote, but I think I wouldn't take either if I had a choice, and I do! I'd find a clean Mauser action, and barrel it, put it in a synthetic stock, if the cost is a consideration, or a good wood stock if it isn't. Then you would have a rifle, instead of a half finished toy!
