Steve LefforgeLooking for advise on building a .500 Jeffery
Is there any BOLT action out there that you could build a .500 Jeffery on. Or would a person be just as well off with a .460 WM and reload the 500 grain bullet around 2500 fps.
I can't afford a high dollar double, so any thought would be appreciated.

Advice on the .500 Jeffery: don't do it. Bad carttridge design. Short neck and rebated rim and case body too fat, will require tedious/expensive magazine and feed work.
Best .458 cartridge design in the world is a .338 Lapua Magnum necked up to .458 with no other changes.
Or just go the .458 Lott route for practicality.
Thank you boom stick.

jeffeossoUnless you are hooked by nostalgia, don't!!
i've done 3... and wont do another.
500asquare/510 wells is the only way to go.
if you are looking for a 535 at 2400
the gun should
23+" barrel
10.5#
excellent recoil pad (limbsaver or pach f990)
barrel MUST have a recoil lug
the wrist must be pinned "along" it
should be double crossbolted
jeffe

500grainsIf you want a .50 caliber, the most practical way to go is to convert a CZ550 to .500 A-Square.

cz have the .505 gibbs as a chambering now..................might be a consideration. The other blokes are right the A2 is very practical, but the .500 Jeff has all the charm and history and if done right on the right action IMHO has more appeal and better re-sale down the track if those things are an issue for you.

LJSThere is a gun shop in Louisville, Firearms Service, that converts Ruger RSM rifles to 500 Jeff. I have handled one but not shot it. The gunsmith is Gary Roman 502-458-1148.

WVFredA single stack set up works good. This is a barreled action I have.It is single stack and has spring clips like 425 WR.

500grainsPC,
I mention a .500 A2 custom rather than the CZ .505 because the CZ .505 appears not quite finished, with some feeding issues to be worked out prior to DG use. Plus poor sights and bedding.

zimbabweSabi rifles in So. Africa build a VERY nice 500 Jeffery on a 98 action. I had one built for a PH friend several years ago and it is really a good functoning and shooting gun. They do first rate work. Was not high dollar but the exchange rate at the time was 12 x 1 or so. It would be considerably more now at 6+ to 1. I think one of the SA PH's that posts on the forum has one from them also.

Yep,
Kind of weird what you will find here in Kentucky. Still doesn't make it a good idea.
500grains is partially right about the CZ .505 Gibbs ... wrong about the sights, on the ones that are an NECG banded hooded front (custom option) and the sturdy, standard, machined-integral-to-barrel, island rear express. Those are just fine. Sorting out the magazine box on that one, and adding cross bolts and pillars to the bedding is next on the agenda here at HA!/DOA, after we get the .423 Lapua Kifaru test fired.

Your right there will be some work that needs doing to the cz even in the lesser cals, they at least need bedding.
