.416 Winchester Express
Does anyone heared from a round, called .416 Winchester Express?
I have many books about cartridges, but I couldn´t find everything about the history.
Is it a round from the Winchester company or is it made by wildcatter? Whats the ballistic of this round and where can I find more about it? bewildered

Thanks, Martin

Are you sure that it is not a description of a rifle rather than a caliber? Perhaps a Winchester Super Express in 416 Rem Mag??

Excellent reply!

There is no such round as a 416 Win express and the 458 mag necked to 416 as a wildcat is called a 416 Taylor.

416 winchester express was a working name for the 416 howell. Never made it to production, sadly... it's about 2 grains less than the 416 AR... Ken and I talked about the ARs, the Howells, and the winchester expresses.

i did not know the 416 express and howell were the same thing. i hate the fact that such a man as howell has not had a comercial round. maybe the a.r. rounds in some way will change that.

There are a lot of BS rounds bantering around. Anyone can make a wildcat and steal a wildcat by doing this and changing that to make it a little differen. Hell I was making 333 Jeffery brass for a fella out of RWS 404 brass in 1978. I also made up some rounds for a 375 off that case. Dakota took that same line but it was years later. I quit wildcatting long ago as there were other commercial rounds available to play with. This is all well beyond needs anymore it is about having fun. Staying wiht non wildcat rounds makes a rifle a little easier to sell should the time come as well as easier to feed in the intrium

in this case, winchester was working WITH Ken, not just taking it, fwiw.
