Hunted gophers with a 50 BMG McMillan bolt action rifle a few times. The only problem is you never know if you hit them.

500 A-Square on a Ruger No. 1 with .588" total throat for Milsurp and target bullets... (JGS 500 A2 reamer with throat extended with Dave Manson throating reamer.)

510 JAB (.510/460 Weatherby Improved Jenkins and Berry) on a BRNO ZKK 602... (500 A2 with 30 degree shoulder and only 0.300" freebore, reamer by Dave Manson. The standard 500 A2 has a 35 degree shoulder and 0.400" free bore.)

50 BMG, AR 50. Traded in the Barrett on a double rifle. The AR 50 was more accurate than the Barrett, in my case.

I've fired a MacMillan .50 BMG, and currently shoot a .577 Snider. Does that count? How about .50-70 Government, or 12.17X44R Swedish?

Kenai Capt,

Is that one of the Ruger M77 Bowen conversions that Great Northern Guns had done? How do you like the gun?

Beginning to appear as though we have quite a large membership here!

How many of you have taken game with your .505+ rifles?

I have shot several buffalo with the 505 Gibbs and 5 Bison with the 500 AHR.

Had a custom .50 BMG that I had built in a lightweight bull-pup configuration. it weighed just under 17 pounds. Recoil was a bit fierce. I now lust after a .505 Gibbs.

With regard to DB's question my vote would be that the .505+ rifle would have to be shoulder held. I am only one of many here in the .505+ club so we will have to see what the others have to say as well.

I used to own a 50 BMG to. They can be great fun, but I feel they are a little awkward for hunting.

Good question - regarding taking of game with 505+, have only managed to take multiple Water Buffalo with the 505 Gibbs, both 525gn and 600gn Bullets.

Hope to use Custom 500 Jeff and 500 NE Double this year and somewhere in Africa next year.

Paul,
Yes it's one of the 5 from GNG, but Bowen didn't do them.Cliff LaBounty did the rebore ,but a local smith rechambered and assembled them, not sure who. I like it fine so far, have not been able to get out shooting much, but what I've done has been a a hoot. Still need to get it bedded and the magazine box is a hair too short so need to address that as well. Sorry about the weird reply , I can't figure out how to do the quote thing,
Regards
Ron
