I got a phone call from Tip Burns at Canyon Sporting Arms It seems my New Mauser Model M03, components and hard case have arrived.

Time for a Day Trip to Canyon Lake!

The rifle is an Arabesque with African barrels in 404 Jeffery and 375 H&H. I'm looking forward to having it "in hand"!
Special "Thank You" to Tip and Donna Burns for their kindness and patience!

Will you get a synthetic stock for it?
That stock is damn pretty. I'd be scared to ding it in the field.

Is there a reason for no cross bolts?

Boomie,
The action sits on a metal reinforced frame insde the stock. That frame extends out to mount the two barrel studs on. Once the barrel is attached to the frame and up against the "action" The bolt head actually lock into the barrel. You can change the barrel, bolt head and magazine in 3-4 minutes. You can decide on a drop box or traditional load through the action magazine as you install it.

When I get the rifle I'll post some pictures and video.

I figured such a beauty had to have some kind of cool recoil system to protect that gorgeous stock. That rifle could not be in better hands. Congrats with selfless envy.

Rusty the M03 is scary accurate! Great gun! The 404 will hold 4 down, but just put 3 down it just feeds better. Who needs more than 3 down and one up the spout anyway!Enjoy it is an awesome weapon!!!!

All kidding aside - that looks like the kind of thing you dream about, describe and ask for and are STILL awe-struck when you see it in real life.

Truly impressive.

Neat!

Rusty, I learned something from my M03 African. I took out the recoil reducer and it lightened the rifle about 2 pounds, and the recoil without it was find.

On a hunt I did discover that the recoil tube actually doubles as an anchor for the action to the stock-oops- smarter person would have realized this.

I guaged the threads and was looking around for a bolt long enough to replace the recoil reducer as an anchor. and am still looking.
