This is a video of a Bear I shot 3 days ago with my 500 A square. The shot was 165 yards. I used a 350 gr Non Con cutting edge bullet that I drilled 550 thousands deeper and installed a tip. The finished weight was 325 grains. I used 118.0 grains of H 4198 for 3300+ MV. I found 7 petals on the opposite side of the entrance hole just under the hide. The core did exit 1 1/4" hole. The Bear was dead when it hit the ground. 10 feet from the bait. This is a long video fast forward to the good part. Ross

Impressive! It looks like the the bullet shock knocked the bear off the ledge.

You might want to knock the first and last minutes off that video; there isn't anything of note on them.

Nice bear, nice shot. The big 50s are pretty amazing. I shot a 450 lb feral hog at 8' with my 500 Jeffery (570g TSX at 2300 fps) between the eyes. It essentially liquefied it.

I have done the same thing, to multiple Cape buffalo, with my .500 A-Square firing 570 grain TSX bullets at 2,500 fps.

And that's why I prefer it to any double ever made, and any other DG caliber in a bolt rifle.

Very excellent. You can see the impact just rippling the bear, and the exit of the remaining bullet kicking up dust the other side. That was an incredible reaction to taking that hit! At that velocity no surprise the blades made it to the far side.... About how far from the main exit were the blades? Also, 7 blades instead of the normal 6? I can suppose that with drilling the cavity deeper you may have caused some erratic shear... Or, at that velocity one blade might have broken in half as well? Either way, blades going completely through does a tremendous amount of damage, and inflicts incredible trauma to target. Very Wicked......

For the record that is a fast .179 SD bullet doing some serious whoop ass on a bear. Maybe rename these whoop ass cans? Impact velocity about 2,900 FPS? These big bore light and fast Non Cons and Raptors never stop amazing me.

The blades-petals were in a 10 inch circle around the exit hole. the amount of blood at the impact site was amazing. I can tell you one thing--Non Cons are real bad boys on game. We are going to shoot another Bear sometime this next week and I will do another video. Ross

As much slicing and dicing that goes on with the NonCons... Bullets/blades +, there is always a huge amount of blood loss, and very quickly, I have seen it over and over.

Next bear... Cartridge/Bullet? I still remember the drop to the shot bear with the .474 320 NonCon too..... Getting a pretty good record on bear!

Next Bear is going to be shot with a 500 Weatherby--Just a 460 necked up to take .500 bullets. I will use a 365 grain non con that has been shortened drilled and made into a boat tail. Finished bullet is 250 grains MV is 3700+ I had to change the bullet because my barrel is a 20 twist. The shot will be at 210 yards. Ross

I have been thinking of building one of those .500s on the big weatherby case, maybe that big Montana action. We have here 1000s on top of 1000s of excellent .500 bullets of course, with all the B&Ms........ Not sure what I would do with such a thing, but might be fun.... Should have put one of those 1;12 barrels on it.
