TonyRumoreShot some groups with the new .375 SOCOM (pic)
I know it's a pretty wimpy big bore for this site, but I was finally able to get out and shoot a few groups with the .375 SOCOM AR-15. (.458 SOCOM necked to .375)
All loads were with AR-COMP powder, 5 shots, at 100 yards. Shilen 1:12 twist barrel.
5/8" 220gr Hornady FP
3/4" 225gr Hornady Spitzer
13/16" 200gr Sierra FP
1-3/8" 235gr Speer Semi-Spitzer
I only fired one group with each bullet, so there is no "cherry picking" going on here.

What kind of velocities are you getting?

TonyRumoreI have pushed the 200gr Sierra over 2600fps from a 19.5" barrel, but that is certainly well past the 35k pressure limit set for the 458 SOCOM.
Around 35k, it's more like 2400fps. Surprisingly, the case holds nearly 60 grains of powder.

crsheltonT0ny,
My son shoots a DPMS .458 SOCOM that shoots well and will try it on hogs this coming weekend. If all goes well, we will put some large holes in our bacon to be.

Parent case is the 458 socom, which is a proprietary case designed by Marty Terweem (sp) with help from Tony Rumore. Very effective AR 15 short range round, devastating on hogs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.458_SOCOMthis is a 375/45/70 in an ar platform

Tromix is the way to go. He has everything you'll need for a .458 SOCOM build, or he has complete uppers for sale. He's one of the few legitimate suppliers for SOCOM parts using the authorized chamber reamer specs. Good luck, you'll love the SOCOM. If you want to find out more, you should check out the SOCOM forums. Lots of expertise there.

crsheltonAs expected my son's .458 SOCOM dropped his hog with a single shot this morning. My .405 did also.

packrattusnongratusI enjoy the 458 and am not sure about the 375. But I know Tony's work to be impeccable. When he gets to the 358 SOCOM I will have to buy another lower to go with it.

TonyRumoreWe finally have all the .375 SOCOM stuff in stock, shipping now. AR-15 barrels, bolts, upper receivers, case gauges, dies, etc. Factory ammo will be available from SBR by the end of the year. If anyone is interested, it's all listed on the Tromix website.

boom stickHi Tony. Thanks for posting. That 375 looks petty sweet. What do you think of the 358 Gremlin in my tag line?
