Well, thanks to our state leaders, putting state workers on unpaid furlough days, I will not be making the trip as planned.I just love no raises and a pay cut . Welcome to Illinois politics. I was looking forward to bringing some cool toys, ...maybe next time.

You can attend just to socialize and enjoy our company! We usually have enough rifles and ammo to let others shoot after the event.

Gents,
Just where is the Hoot and Shoot held?
Also, what is the drill? (rules, guns, and such)

I have a friend or two here in the Dallas area with whom I shoot regularly that may be interested.

Sevens, yes you certainly can ship to yourself and use the guns when you get to your hunt or shooting event.

Doggy, I am not sure what you mean when you say you can ship to yourself. My understanding of federal law is that a firearm may not be shipped to a private citizen from a private citizen.

A firearm owner can ship a firearm to a licensed gunsmith for repair or modification and that firearm may be shipped back to the owner.

A firearm must be shipped to an FFL holder in all other situations.

Is there something I don't know?

Thanks,
josh

Yes, apparently there is ... you may ship a firearm to yourself from yourself as long as the package is not opened by anyone other than you at the receiving location. Example: you live in Toledo, you own a Super-Bubba Express Model 32 1/2 , you pack it up and send it addressed to yourself in Texas. Someone at the Texas address recieves the package and secures it unopened until which time you arrive and take possesion of said package.

if someone other than you receives the package in another state, does that not constitute shipping to another private individual? Not being contrary, but I would hate to see someone lose a firearm and run afoul of our illustrious BATFE.
Screwing with honest citizens and technical difficulties are much more their style than messing with organized crime or drug dealers (one and the same these days).

Dangit...,

I had friends looking forward to seeing me get the stuffing knocked out of me by toys belonging to Bigdoggy. Who by the way needs to come down here and work for the govt. I just got my annual cost of living increase. It may be only 3.58% but it is guaranteed by union contract, along with automatic step increases up to a nice salary.

Big Dog, we will miss you at the shoot. Perhaps one of the members with a video camera can send the highlights.

If you are in management and out of a union, thats when you get taken to the cleaners. I was looking forward to coming just so people who appreciate guns could shoot some of the stuff I have. Hopefully things will straighten out before long. We will see

BD700,

why not just host a shoot at your place and charge admission? I'd pay just to see people shoot anything with more WOW!!! factor than the 2600fps loads in my 550 Gibbs.

Not really many good spots to set something up here. I guess I could try to find someone to let us use their land. Lots of hills and not much flat stuff here in So. Ill. If Macifej brings that 2 bore to Houston, I am really going to be ticked to miss it.

It's held on a private gun club south of Houston, north of Angelton and slightly west. The range is in Juliff off of FM 523. Juliff is slightly larger than the sign it takes to spell it.

Rules last time included cartridge big bores of all action types (BP ok but no muzzle loaders). I think .366 was about the smallest I saw in competition but you can bring anything to show off. Fee was $15 to help cover the cost of lunch and whatnot. The shooting games change from shoot to shoot but are fun and simple, not a whole lot of rounds per relay so it doesn't take all day to get through a match and get back to the brisket. The quality of the crowd makes the event.

Guys if this is a crazy idea, just say so , but I really want to come down to the big bore shoot in October and meet everyone. I was going to cancal my trip due to state cuts and unpaid furlough days I have to take at work. I figure the trip with gas motel food and drink would run me and my wife about 750.00. I could bring the 4 bore double , 700 nitro, 700 AHR, and a 600 overkill to shoot. Plus several other cool things to look at. I would need the following charges to reimburse for ammo to shoot that day or if some want a certridge for a collection. 50.00 for a 4 bore round, 50.00 for a 700 nitro round, 20.00 for a 700 AHR round, and 10.00 for a 600 overkill round. If I can get enough people to commit to what they want to shoot or cartridges for a collection, I may be able to finance my trip and then when things loosen up and get better, I can then replace my ammo down the road. I would be glad to bring the 2 bore king kong black powder, gun and a 600 nitro contender handgun to look at also. let me know what you think guys. This is also posted on the other post about the October shoot. thanks

I have volunteered to do a test run on the 700NE and 4 bore in the interests of being able to give you all some idea of how it goes. I'll be at BD700's place the third week of September as part of a visit to StL and the 3-game series there with the cubbies.

Idaho sharpshooter, I forgot to tell you, I charge double to all cub fans. You come down to my place, we are die hard Cardinal fans in Southern Ill. Actually because of WGN showing the cubs for years, cubbie fans are everywhere. I do have to ask all cub fans though, Is it true that all cub fans are 90 % scar tissue.??? It is a friendly rivalry.

BD,

I grew up in Granite, remember? No cub fans in my family background. We had season tickets at Busch Stadium growing up, my dad took a second job to pay for them.

Go StL Cardinals, it's our year to win the series again.
