To those who shoot a 404 jeffery, is there a consensus among you as to the optimal barrel length for this round?

I'm having one built and am going for a 25" barrel. I also bought a Heym...they come with 24" barrels. Either would be fine....in my opinion. Gary DRSS NRA Lifer

i think you could get away with a 20" a 22" is ideal and over 22" is a matter of ballance, recoil and looks...not much gained in velocity over 24" imho the 404 is for d.g. under 100 yards 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. With all due respect there is never a concensus of almost anything dealing with guns.....we're all fairly independent! That said I'll just say mine is 23 1/2 because that happened to be where the NECG front sight band fit best. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." No less than 23" and no more than 25", anywhere in there would suit me fine. The one I chose to build was 24". The one I got ready-made was 25". Just my personal preferences. The originals were 24" IIRC.
