It is trimmer than the fat walnut and laminate stocks for the "American" 550 Mag.
Like Euro-Luxe trim and American-Straight.
I like it.
I have not bothered to call CZ USA to ask who is making it.
Sumbuddy who know?

When McMillan is bettered by MPI,
That is the day that pigs will fly.

Hey RIP

Please see below my thread on barrel twist and the 500 A2. I know you favour a 1:10, however I will be shooting the Woodleigh bullets not monos. Your opinion would be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry for jumping in here.

Cheers

Stu

OK
Called CZ USA today and ordered one.
Should be here in a few days.
Made by Bell and Carlson with full aluminum bedding block, according to Justin at CZ USA:
800-955-4486 9a-4p CST M-F

BTW, Davy Crockett's "Old Betsey" was a 40-cal flintlock, and he could up the velocity of the ".395" ball from 1600 fps to 2500 fps by loading with "six fingers" of powder instead of "three fingers."
And Davy died at the Alamo, cracking Mexican skulls with his ".395." Wink

$425
for one.
A volume discount for 10 of them would be available.
I did not ask how much for 10 of them.
Seems like some dealer should jump on that.
I think AHR could do better with that than an MPI!

... Plus $15 S&H.
Yep, full aluminum bedding block, dark gray almost black, with some gray spider speckles, and a Pachmayr 1" Decelerator pad.
It is slimmer than the Fat American.
Ought to stand up to any sporting BB gun imaginable.

Is it a drop-in or ya think it's gonna need some work...??

Maybe a B&C ...?? Looks similar to the MKV set-up...

Yes, as I stated previously, CZ gets them made by Bell and Carlson, right there in Kansas, Toto!

It is a drop-in with the standard barrel contour for .375H&H, .416 Rigby, and .458WM/Lott.

I have not tried phatter barrels, but it should be possible to do some sanding of the barrel channel for some phatter barrels.

The recess in the barrel channel for secondary recoil lug is also backed by metal, covered with paint in the pic above.
I have not X-rayed it to see if it is connected in one piece with the action housing metal.

You eliminate the sliding nut in the barrel recoil lug contraption,
so the contraption is not a contraption anymore.
Just an integral barrel lug now.
The escutcheon and machine screw through the forearm are eliminated.

A rifle ought to bed itself into the aluminum with some break-in shooting.
If not perfect contact all around, some touchup bedding could be done.

Looks good.

Nah, might sand out the barrel channel for a phat 398 Lapua Mag.
Or just drop in the slim 300 Lapua Mag.
McGowen barrels all. thumb

Any updates on this stock? Did the action "bed itself into the aluminum" as you had speculated or was additional bedding required? How does it handle recoil? How is the comb height for using the factory open sights?

Oregon45,
I have neglected to give it a try.
I dropped a .416 Rigby into it and will take some of my one-shot-cape-buffalo-killing loads to the range tomorrow.
That was a 380-grain GSC FN at 2509 fps from the 24" and 1:14" twist Generation II Ruger RSM.
They are already loaded.

If weather permits, I can chrono them in the 25" CZ barrel with 1:16.5" TWIST.

Even if it is raining I will be able to accuracy test from a covered range bench.

This is a rifle that gave 3/4 MOA in the old Eurohogback Lux stock.

Drop-in fit, needs to be shot-in fitted to the aluminum bedding block.
I shall report, come hell or high water. thumb
Need to pattern The Judge too.

Been too distracted by pirate business.

Eeker

DO NOT SAND OUT THE BARREL CHANNEL!!!!!!

Not positive about the B & C stocks, but if their anything similar to H S Precision, this is an extremely bad idea.

I attempted to sand out the barrel channel on an HS Precision Police stock to fit a 1.25" bull barrel - All I did was ruin the stock.

HS uses a soft black dense foam around the bedding block area to build everything up. The exterior surface is a hard fiberglass / epoxy fiber "skin" that covers this softer material. The HS stock I had had numerous air pockets under this skin, and when I attempted to remove it by sanding (by hand), it chipped and cracked. The stock now is built up using JB weld and looks like sheet.

Even if u are able to remove this skin with out chipping, you are still going to have to build up a replacement skin or cover (if its built similar) and the edges where the two different "skins" meet will always look off & be weak.

DON'T DO IT!

I ended up ordering up a rosewood laminated stock from Richards Microfit which turned out completely beautiful. Not sure how the laminate holds up to the destructive devices, but mine is considerably stiffer than any of the other HS stocks I have.

WOW!!! Eeker
That is extreme!
Opening a barrel channel to 1.25" bull barrel would ruin most synthetic stocks.
I have sanded out No.5 sporter to No.7 straight taper on a McMillan and a B&C.
MPI, and Brown Precision are thin-shell,foam-filled. I would not sand one of those out any more than a trifle,
and do that routinely to fully glass bed the barrel channel, just like with a woodie.

Oregon45,
It was 82 degrees F when I arrived.
Overhead light lasted long enough for me to "shoot it in" over the chrono (5 yards from muzzle),
with 5 rounds of Federal factory 410-grain Woodleigh RNSPs at 50 yards to get on paper: 2405.0 fps average
Then 5 more rounds at 100 yards,
shots #6, #7, #8, had it set in enough to be acceptable for three shots: 1.120" 3-shots-100-yards
Then I did a couple more adjustments with 1-shot groups (shots #9 and #10) to check it, then I was out of Woodleighs.

I got three more shots over the chrono with the GSC .416/380-grain FN handloads before it started raining and blowing:
2511 fps average for three shots.
When it stopped raining sideways, I used my shirttail to wipe off my scope objective lens.
With the rain and wind calmed down to vertical fall, and the temperature then 73 degrees F,
the GSC was grouped: 0.808" 3-shots-100-yards

The Bell & Carlson drop-in stock with full aluminum bedding block works well with a .416 Rigby from CZ.
I just discarded the recoil lug contraption from the barrel.
There is a recess in the barrel channel of the synthetic stock where you could bed what is left of the recoil lug, or reconstruct the contraption, or just leave it floating free like I did. thumb

Oregon45,
I think you got a good idea there.
Forget the crossbolts and glass bedding.
It will be tougher than a wood stock.
Good accuracy.
Has the feel of the slim Eurolux, slim grip and forearm, unlike the phat American stock.
It has the straight comb, like the phat American, and a perfect compromise drop at heel for scope or irons.
Nice weight.
Felt good to "shoot it in."
I did not notice the recoil. thumb

Hi Jay,
And I bet you can see the ocean from your "cave."
It is still raining here.

The stray bullet holes on the GSC target, are because I shot my neihbor's target, right next to mine, when I disorientedly started shooting again after the sideways rain let up.
He was shooting some .223 and .308 sniper rifles.
Nice gent, in his sixties, retired from the USN, let me finish my 3 shots on his target ... and told me some stories about his Navy Special Ops career ... had to leave out some of the details or he would have had to kill me.

The old "Cave" was 100 yards from the cliffs with a southwesterly view of the Pacific. The cave prior to that had a westerly view of the bay ( couple blocks ) . The new cave is high and dry and closer to my play area ... no tsunami risk here ... Big Grin

Might as well show how well this drop-in fits the CZ.

CZ 550 Magnum Safari
Bell & Carlson Stock
Leupold 1.75-6x Extended 1" tube with heavy duplex reticle set on 6X (could have shot smaller group with standard duplex)
Talley QD lever rings.

It was so gentle in recoil because I added a Pachmayr slip-on pad over the 1" Pachmayr Decelerator that comes standard on the stock,
which is about 13-7/8" LOP.
I like the longer LOP with the slip-on added.

oldun,
Without the scope and rings the dry weight of the rifle was 8 pounds and 15 ounces, in synthetic stock shown.

I will have to weigh it with the scope and rings,
later ...

Add the weight of your scope and rings to 8#15oz.
It can be kept below 10 lbs total.

I bought a used CZ 550 Mag with "Kevlar" stock, for use as a parts gun.
Got half a box of Hornady ammo to boot.
A half-box-shot-and-traded rifle, as new in box. Smiler

"Kevlar": That is what CZ is calling this Bell&Carlson synthetic stock.
Fiberglass, Kevlar, graphite, and full aluminum bedding block?

The current state of the art Bell&Carlson stock is better than the one grandpa used.

As it comes from the CZ-USA shop they called this one:

"CZ 550 AMERICAN SAFARI .458 WMAG, KEVLAR"

The Kansas City, Kansas shop gets the B&C stock made by B&C right there in Kansas: Dodge City

CZ-USA puts a little smear of epoxy in the primary recoil lug recess of the aluminum block to bed the action.
They put a blob of epoxy in the forearm recess of the stock to bed what is left of the barrel recoil lug contraption,
after the sliding nut, screw, escutcheon, and F-Block are discarded in going from the walnut to the synthetic stock.

If just dropping a rifle into the B&C stock does not make it shoot like mine did (or better), you might try the CZ method of epoxy bedding:
a tiny smear for the action
a small blob for the barrel lug recess
