You can read more in the wildcat forum but D'Arcy Echols has made what we think to be the first ever unimproved 375 HH case necked to .423" no shoulder. Looks like a 458 Lott but more taper. I'm sure he won't mind making more on his gorgeous rifles he builds. 400 grain 404 bullets @ 2,300 has been achieved and I think a worthy cartridge if it rings your bell.

That's an interesting cartridge. I wonder if it could be done with a 450NE necked down to 423 and put into a double?!!!

Actually it can but I think the 375 flanged would be better. A simple neck up with no shoulder like this on a small frame.

That would be a nice pair of rifles. A 404/375 H&H Belted NE bolt rifle and a 404/375 H&H Flanged NE DR; DR on the slimmer 375 Flanged/400 Jeffery action...

I wonder if the next step up could be made by going with a 470/375 H&H Belted NE (yes basically 470 Lott) paired with a 470/375 H&H Flanged NE? Would you use the same DR frame? Or would it require a larger frame? Maybe use Bailey Bradshaw's Farquharson DRs for the flanged cartridges?

I'm no wildcatter so I bow to your expertise. I would have to agree with you that the 375FL going up would be the better option! Certainly a lighter rifle.

Gee I was going to convert my 300RUM to a Jeffery. Now maybe instead I'll convert my 375 to a 404? bewildered

Hey Boom,

You may remember we talked briefly about this when you were thinking of it, D'Arcy had just recommended I go with a shortened version of this for my springfield 03 custom. I decided in the end (had already ordered a 423 barrel and cancelled it) to try and finish it up as intended as a 416 Taylor with this as the backup. If I were in the market for another springfield custom it would be this. A lot of gun in a nice package.

Now you have load data too! When's yours gonna be finished? Smiler

Dago,

Curious, why didn't you just go with the 425 Express since you already had the barrel ordered? Basically the same as the Taylor, just .423 instead of .416.

Well my friend that had done most of the metal work before dieing, we had a goal in mind. The rear site was lapped in, barrel contoured, action setup for it. If it doesnt' work I can go another route, but the goal was there, we worked towards it. I feel it honors him and keeps everything cohesive.

If I do a standard length anything again this is in the top contenders, well right after 500 jeffery.Smiler

I still have the prototype shorter rounds I keep one in my car and look at it at least once a week. yes, I have issue.

Yes the OKH is fine but there are some advantages to an unimproved case.
