RNS550 Magnum load data #2
I recieved some more verbal data from the lab today the final report will be forwarded to me when they are through. But a 700gr Barnes Banded solid at 2,300fps at 60,000psi is what they came up with. If memory serves me that is 8,222 ft/lbs of muzzle energy out of a 24" barrel on a hunting (stopping)(stomping) rifle.

How does your post relate to 550 Magnum loading data I am having a hard time finding the connection, it seem way off topic.

GrandpasezA 550 reamer from Neal got here, and I have Enfield with long 550 barrel that will be
chambered few days. Will test a bunch of the
600gr 550 Hawk bullets I have, so that Neal
and others will have info on the type of
powders I like and in a long barrel.Ed.

Grandpasez550 mag 600gr Hawk. overall loaded length
3.80".Which is what neal has his set at.
Now at this loaded length, shorter 600gr
bullet it has a powder capacity close to
Rich's 550 gibbs and our 577 Belted case,
when the 577 had heavy bullet seated
to the shorter 3.60" length for short actions.
And in 33" barrel really moving out.Top
loads below. Cut starting loads 10%.Ed
125gr-----RE22------1930 fps,
125ge-----RE19------2040,
125gr-----RE15------2300.
120gr------4831-----1970,
120gr------4350-----2110,
115gr------4320-----2250.
135gr------W760-----2260,
135gr------W748-----2450,
135gr------H335-----2600.

05 November 2007, 11:26
GrandpasezRich- I didn't know you had a 550 Magnum,
based on a 3" Wea case. Just start loads
down 10%. Mac-With that Hawk grenade bullet
it do the damage on a lion.ED
05 November 2007, 11:37
boom stickI think he is going to use those loads as starting loads for his 550 Gibbs.
05 November 2007, 19:06
GrandpasezBoomie-Rich- It is ok to use these as starting loads,in 550 Gibbs but don't cut them back in that little bigger case. And you won't get
same velocity due to bigger case and shorter
barrel with same bullet. You should get about same with that shorter bbl, with about 10 gr
more powder, depending on how far out you
seat bullet.Ed
