In this stock, i had to struggle to get

i forget if it's tally or london guns band
Thoughts?

Bwana-beBeautiful. If the pistolgrip was about 5-8 deg more open and the top of that half-diamond came forward a bit more on the left side, I'd be inclined to say "perfect." -But it ain't my rifle! ;-P

on the doodad,,, it only off due to tilt of the rifle, as the left side is closer to the left side of the camera.. i don't THINK it's off in measurement but i'll check

Really interesting how that from sight sticks out.

I like the "idea" of a 23" bbl 470-something, but with this round, that extra couple inches will make the difference.

the tail on the toe is a standing block for a dakota inletted sling swivel... about a hour of BS to get it to fit, but they look pretty nice.
For the record, Franks 416 (with HH front band sight and tally barrel swivel), Mike's 376 steyr and my 470 AR are going to be dipped this weekend.. might be wednesday before I get them back

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

i like the idea of a heavy stainless barrel to cut some of the recoil
what would you do diff. if you did it again?
is this rifle going to africa and not know it yet?
why not stainless? or do you like the traditional look?

I'm envious in more ways than one.
Firstly, that's good looking rifle you've got there. You seem to have the knack for producing a quality product.
Secondly, I'm impressed that you can turn out a rifle as quickly as you can. My projects seem to take a couple years to get completed. You've gone from idea to bang in rougly what? 7 months? That's impressive!
Not to mention it reminds me how much time I piss away doing other things less productive...

gixxerFINGERPRINTS ON THE BARREL!!! JK, that stock does look nice, the diamond shape from rounding the top and bottom of the pistol grip hints of a double rifle. Nice. Dont forget to do wrap around checkering for the total "nostalgia" feel. Is this gonna be the mascot rifle? I can PM you my ADDY for the firearms transfer!

you can't really compare them this way... the rigby CAN be loaded hotter and faster
I'll repeat these basic facts on the AR
these 3.35" rounds match their 3.65" cousins due to increased case width, therefore greater capacity. This is how you get a rigby, lott, or capstick OUT of a standard length action, with cheap brass and a minimal feeding bill
1: cheap brass
2: most common length actions
3: HH performance out of 3.35"
4: easy feeding
comapring the 416 AR to the rigby is kinda silly... the rigby can out perform it by miles and you can buy a rifle in the round today!

I have around ten boxes of Hornady 400 gr. and a bunch of Barnes to try as well.
If my shoulder, neck and heart hold up it should be fun.

prof242I've been following this for a long time without comment. My .375H&H has done everything I've wanted it to. But now, hmmmm. Since I'm left-handed, a Ruger MkII is a cheap way to go. Could also go with a BLR (no flack please).
But the caliber!?!? Do I go with the .416AR, or the .470? The .470 interests me in that I could use .475 pistol bullets for practice and to let the grandsons (and a tomboy granddaughter) shoot it out to fifty yards. Decisions Decisions.

wow!! I was thinking the 416 challenge is a great idea... I think I can gather up everything but an actual weatherby... but, heck, just drive the rigby fast.. and we've got 45/70, 458 win, 458 lott, 458 AR here.. and I am certain I could ask neal and dave for their max loads on watts and ackley... and then the 470s... I've got the 470 AR, access to a 470 mbogo i built, and that leaves the 475 AM nd 470 capstick...
Anyone down here got a capstick? I aint building one just to have a shoot off.

if it were me, and i was very happy with the 375, I would do the 458, from a practicality POV.. the 470 because it's cool! no one at the range has a 470 gun... and I had a 470 sized bore missing!!
I'll tell you how the 400gr speer pistol bullets do on hogs in about 2 weeks.

Jeffeoso: Yeah, the .458 may be more practical, but like you said, who else on the line would have a .470? The info on the hog hunt with the 400 pistol bullets will be anxiously awaited. My youngest granddaughter just had her birthday and I mentioned this. She asked if she could get more practice with the cast bullets in the .375 H&H, because she really wants to brag about shooting a .470 to the boys in school!
