Jgrabow6493465 H&H
I'm looking at several 465 H&H cartridge drawings and I'm seeing two different rim diameters, one is .602 and the other is .579. I know the .579 is the rim diameter of the Weatherby cartridges. Anyone know which is the correct rim diameter for the 465 H&H? Could a rifle be made to feed both rim diameters reliably?

GrenadierThe maximum diameter for the rim of the .465 H&H cartridge case is is 14.71 millimeters or 0.5791 inches.
The maximum diameter for the forward part of the belt on the .465 H&H cartridge case is 15.33 millimeters or 0.6035 inches.
The minimum diameter at the rim for the chamber of the .465 H&H is 15.39 millimeters or 0.6059 inches.
The Wikipedia entry for .465 H&H incorrectly stated that it had not been standardized by either SAAMI or CIP. So, I have corrected the entry and cited links to the pertinent CIP pages.

chuck375My only question is why the 465 H&H? Holland and Holland could've legitimized the 470 Capstick and renamed it. Same ballistics, 500g bullet at 2400 fps.

Chuck

Idaho SharpshooterH&H has two 465's these days. Perhaps the one is for the old DR cartridge...?

GrenadierYou are speaking of the 500/465 N.E.
No, Idaho, that rim is 16.64mm/0.655".

Jgrabow6493I was referring to the 465 H&H Belted Mag. I have multiple prints but one has a rim diameter of .602. It must be a chamber print.

GrenadierMy first post is regarding the 465 H&H Belted Magnum. The post just above was in response to Idaho Sharpshooter and refers to the 500/465 N.E.

I believe George, the moderator has one. I believe the 470 Capstick is capable of propelling a 500g bullet safely at 2400 fps, but George will know.

AtkinsonThe .470 Capstick can handle a 500 gr. bullet at 2400 FPS. but can you is the question?..The one I shot was so loaded and the recoil IMHO was heinous, horrific, hurt like hell, and made my Searcy .470 seem like a marshmellow!..That ended my quest for a .480 Capstick..
There are those with more testosterone or BS, whichever the case may be, and theyu inject that the .470 capsticks recoil is nothing more than a maidens caress.

chuck375I don't believe it's a maiden's kiss, or just a push either, like I was told about my 500 Jeffery I have the bruise to prove it lol. Still like my 500 though ...

yeah .. well, in other news - several people have shot the 470 Accrel at 2350 right next to a 470 NE double - and 100% of them preferred the AccRel due to stock fitment ...
and i thought thermonuclear ray could shoot the 505 gibbs in a trap shoot ...

Truly I wonder why you insist using AR for surport of insidious and condemning remarks as opposed to Illumination.

416Tanzanwhat's with the 505?
the 505 Gibbs is factory loaded to lower levels than the Jeffrey and the 500 AccRel outdoes the factory 505.
Now if you want to talk stocks, I would testify that standard-weight "270/3006" wood and laminate stocks cannot handle the big boomers without substantial internal reinforcement. A word to the wise when muzzle energies cross the 6000-7000 ft.lb. line.
Yet what the stocks can't handle, we can absorb by rolling with the punch and limiting daily number of shots fired.

Ray,
seriously? Do you consider stock fitment to be a figment of someone (else's) imagination ?
Read what I said, not what you feel hurt over
to clear up your thought process, this is actually what i said
quote:

you said you thought the capstick kicked harder than the 470 NE -- that is an idiomatic statement of your PERSONAL experience -- a single issue
I presented another field test, with various other testers, that found it to be EXACTLY the opposite of your idiomatic "experience"
further, in direct conflict with, well, everyone that's ever shot a 458 winmag boltgun vs 450NE doble, as same bullet and vel .. and 470 what'sit vs 470 NE.. 50 whatsit vs 500NE...
and even 30-30 in a levergun vs bolt gun.
you can't bluster-to-overcome-physics, sirrah, and EVERYONE knows more drop = more felt recoil, all else being equal...
and, ray, yo do boast about your 505 gibbs experience, quite a bit - sorry you don't care for being called on it, for a nonsensical statement of a capstick kicking more than a 470 e

AtkinsonWell old boy that was the longest line of BS that has ever been printed on AR, boreing and not to the point, including the misquotes, You must absolutely give up suffering from delusions of adequacy or the first thing you know you will have all the virtures I dislike and none of the vices that I admire!!
