Is the a-square company alive or dead? The website isn´t updated for nearly two years. In Germany the general dealer Reimer Johannsen don´t have any contact to the company. What´s happend?
Thanks,

NFMikeAt present, they are finishing backorders only. I don't believe that they are actively taking orders but they may be soon. A new production facility has been built but the machinery had not been moved in from the older building yet. I imagine that will happen yet this year. No new people have been hired to operate that machinery but there have been a few interviews. The individual that is completing the backorders was so swamped with phone calls that he had to get an unlisted number. Be patient (tough, I know); I think good things will begin to happen in the next six months.

You're right Rich, Art's been persecuted in the worst way by an over-reaching and tyrannical government bureau, he's done nothing wrong and has been nearly destroyed by bureaucratic assholes. Bastards.

GanyanaBut is Art still part of A square? Last time I met him he introduced me to 'the new owner' (Mike???Smith- I forget and took an instant dislike to the man) and said he had stayed on as 'technical advice'.

NFMikeA2 will be part of a consortium of several firearms related businesses operating primarily at the same location (some have some offsite manufacturing operations). There are at least two other companies and maybe three. Of course, there are "corporate considerations" to get all sorted out before production begins.

Mike SmithWhy would you want to deal with A2 or anyone else for that matter when you have Reimer Johannsen right there?

and I disagree -- his personal trials, be they what they are, are that- personal, and have nothing to do with A2.. that's a 2a ... A2 being asquare, @a being the man.
The A2 stocks are FUGLY and are generally the grain of a railroad tie reject.. perhaps I am being unkind to the tie.
Their brass, ammo, and guns are subpar, to be kind - and my opinion of 2a is that he affirms and reinforces that.
Just is what it is - btw, since he DID NOT register the 577 trex as a sporting round .. well, guess what that does for everyone that owns it, without a DD exception
09 August 2010, 19:55
aliveinccI don't know the man. While I live and cherish the idea of function over form, every time I looked at a2 rifles, I always wondered what the big deal was. Jeffoso's description is spot on. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a rifle, I at least ought to be able to look at it as something more than a noise making boat anchor.

Michael RobinsonI noticed that A-Square took out a full page advertisement in the latest African Hunting Gazette indicating that the company would be up and running soon with Art Alphin back at the helm.

NFMikeThat would take some mighty long rudder cables. He lives more than 200 miles from the plant. Absentee operation won't work and he shouldn't try. There is a CEO and a CFO and he's not either one of them.

Michael RobinsonNFMike, maybe I misinterpreted it, but this is straight out of the ad:
"Contrary to rumors, Art is not in fact dead, nor retired, he's just been distracted building new factories for his rifles and ammunition deep in the American West (
Wyoming and South Dakota.)"
And here's the closer, in large font, bold type, at the bottom of the ad, just to the right of the A-Square buffalo head logo:
"
LT. COL. ARTHUR ALPHIN'S
SAFARI RIFLES & AMMUNITION MFG.
A-SQUAREServing PH's since the 1970's"
Below that is a link to the A-Square website:
www.a-squareco.comVery curious indeed if Alphin is not in a leadership role.

NFMikeI've said enough and won't say anymore without specific permission. My only interest is that the factory is in my home town and it would be nice to get some people employed in something that isn't going to crumble at the next energy bust (and in Wyoming, there is always another energy bust). Now don't take it that I was insulted because I wasn't. I just need to shut up now.

KarlSame could be said of a lot of makers right now...
If Art does get it going at least we have an affordable ultra large bore, 10,000+ftlbs tradtional bolt action option again in the 577.
Try to get a new 600OK much under 6-9 grand now. Even the inventor said the intention was supposed to be an affordable CZ upgrade. Not paying 6-10X the cost of the donor gun.
Actually as to the hannibal's looks I don't give a fuck about emulating the british in any way personally. But then again I also like weatherby's and Cadillacs. Have to admit guys, there is nothing funnier than you yanks wearing pith helmets poo-pooing that damn american flashiness lol.

REAL Americans aren't "Yanks". Weatherbys and Caddys are tres cool and so is the A2. Some consider it the Saab 900 of rifles ... I like em ... besides exotic wood and checkering are for sissys ...

Mike SmithBig Bore Fan I am not sure if you are saying that Johansenn didnt respond to you or that he didnt get a reply frm A2. It would appear that A2 is being bought out in some faction wether in whole or part and some sort of reorginization is taking place. If you go through A2 you wil have a larger problem of the issue that Art Alpin aparently register the .577 TREX as a sporitng weapon. As such he i requires a licsence as destructive device. I dont know what kind of problms to import to Germany would be at that point. Talk to Reimmer about his largest mauser action and the possibility of building on that platform. I am mostly sure it can be done. If not there is another company here in the states that builds large mauser type actions for around 2k that could be used to put a project together. Granite Mountain Arm makes some of the best actions on the market today. If you dontget any reasonable replys in the next 2 weeks let me know and I will see if I can do anything to help

I must be an UNREAL American. I dont like Wbys, Caddy or Saabs. Dont like ASquare anything. Burned once, lesson learned. FWIW, I drive a Ford pick up truck and a Jeep. I love good wood and a classic gun.

GrandpasezHow to know if trex has been exempted as a
sporting round??? I can't get no list....
They won't even tell you or have a list of them.
Guys ask them, even about my stuff and they won't
give out the info. Whoever can email Art, maybe ask him.
Art's troubles do involve ASq though, as when they started the
crooked crap they shutdown business and hauled it away; computers,
guns being worked on; etc and locked up the rest. And worse.
Next to thumbhole stocks, I like ASq stocks best,
for the big guns.Ed

jeffeossoThese are NOT exempted, Ed - STOP CONFUSING THIS ISSUE - it is designated as a sporting round -- EXCEPTIONS are allowing a DD to be owned -- these are VERY different things. The 550 magnum and express and flaned are all designated as sporting rounds - NO EXCEPTION NEEDED to the DD clause
Funny, they give the 550s, without qualm. "Is the 550 magnum/express/flanged designated a sporting round?" "Yes" .. "And the gun?" "Depends on configuration"
Call them, ask them if the nyati OR trex ahs EVER been reviewed as a sporting round. The answers will be NO and NO .. no misinforation about "we don't give that information out" as that is an OBVIOUS FoIA question, and no privacy concerns.
However, if you asked for a DD exception, there's no wonder they didn't give it out -- THAT is private info.

Karl,
What's the going price on an A Square 577 T-Rex (I can't access the site here)?
AFAIK, the AHR-built, CZ based 600OK (or 585AHR or 577 T-Rex) is $4,995 (could be more as of late - can't access that site either from here) and I think Bijou Creek was a bit less or around the same.
FWIW, I like Caddys and WBYs too.

5 years ago, it was $3500 + sites, your choice of railroad tie or fence post -- tie suggested for heavy kickers due to weight

mehulkamdar Ragnar and Roger Hansen in Norway can build you a 577 T-Rex. They make their own action machined from high tensile steel and you can get whatever features you want. It may be easier to have the rifle shipped from Norway to Germany than from the USA.

Every time I asked you Balked. So how about posting the code reference in the letter so these guys can read and understandf? No need to post your private business here. Lots of mis/disinformation floating around these pages.
