has anyone used barnes x tsx xpbs backwards to have a cal meplat as a good hammer on game??? is it accurate??? i guess it would be a semi solid. ![]() i think it would penetrate more than forwards if it does not tumble since it would be non expanding... 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Boomer, John Buhmiller used reversed softs with solid bases for elephant hunting in the 1950's. They worked. Didn't PHC talk about doing something like that too, once upon a time. Shooting a TSX boattail backwards would probably be a better solid than the Barnes banded brass ogive FN solids. Probably feed better too. A flat base used as a caliber-sized meplat migh not be very "feedable." I have been meaning to try it.

PHC in one of his tales, talked about killing an enraged elephant, with a .270 bullet removed and reinserted backwards. The real question is with so many good bullets in the market why would you? other than dire emergencies. I have heard of people taking military 30-06 FMJ ammo and pulling the bullet and seating it backwards for deer hunting. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

i think the flat back ones would be neet...the boatail would be good too as rabbi rip ordained. i think they would have a good b.c. with its reverse spitzer. yes there are reg flat nose but having a cylinder front solid is unique aint it??? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. I think Veral Smith of LBT fame touted reversed bullets for super quiet loads for "subdivision" shooting. The point in the case helps use up case capacity. Back when I was young and dumb (not so young any more), I tried reversed Speer SPBTs in an '06 for an impromptu solid. The long point used up too much powder space IIRC with a load seated deep enough that didn't interfere with the rifling leade. Don't recall that great of accuracy either. I do remember that PHC story and the .270. Two guys were out plains game hunting and got into a jam. They were without water and one of them shot an ele to get at the "tank" the great grey beasts reputedly have.

Compared to using the new Barnes Triple Banded Solids, which have a flat nose, I don't think you would gain much of an advantage. This would seem to be a better idea. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Back when the 50 Alaskan came out some of the loads talked about using 50BMG soilds loaded backwards for up close bear stoppers. I have a Hannd flat pointer that I have used a few times to take the tip off of 6.5 and 30 cal stuff,,seemed to work okay for shooting targets but have never tried them on any thing with skin Stay Alert,Stay Alive Niet geschoten is altijd mis Hate of America is the defeat position of failed individuals and the failing state

50BMG solids in 50 Alaskan. Those bullets had the pointed end cut off, then they were loaded with the boat tail forward. So, they were not the full weight. Right, they were cut down to only about 400 grains or thereabouts.

i think throwing a backwards 750 or 800 gr bullet @ 2150 out of an a2 would be kinda neet...rip, bust out the iron buffalo...lets see how far a .439 s.d. 510 bullet can penetrate ![]() 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S.
