Anybody done this as a day/night rig for a non-AR rifle? Put on an EOTech or similar for day, and used a PVS-14 mounted behind it at night?

Thinking about a rig for a Remington 742 semi-auto if anybody has another suggestion.

The PVS14 is usually regarded as too fragile to handle recoil greater than 5.56 or maybe 6.8. A better way to go with the 742 is to use an IR laser on the rifle and helmet mount the PVS.

As always, your mileage may vary.

A PVS-14 with an EOTech is a very typical set up, but best suited for a continuous picatinny rail. So as long as you have the real estate on your 742 you should not run into any problems.

In regards to the PVS-14 and recoil, the ITT tube can handle 223 with no problems but "MAY" suffer delamination with higher recoiling calibers. You can also purchase PVS-14's with the L3 tube which is far more robust as it does not rely on thin film technology.

Make sure you find a supplier with an extended warranty if you have not already purchased your PVS-14.

3006 is way too much for a PVS14. If your budget permits, Laser Devices, now Steiner, makes several lasers that slave the IR to a visible laser. It is much easier to sync your visible laser to your already sighted in crosshair all without donning the night vision. Do this when the sun begins to ebb and you can see the visible laser thru your scope downrange. If your lasers are slaved to each other, your IR will now be the same point of aim. TNVC.com carries everything you need and is very helpful with any questions including getting your helmet set up. If you have a helmet mounted PVS14 and an IR laser, you will be king of the hill!
