Eeker

Holly Christ!!!!! For the metricly impared among us that's 50.4"-51.2"!!! Although I tend to think I'm more impressed with the 15 year age! That's amazing for a wild sheep or goat! I'd love to see some pictures with side pofiles showing the anular rings. Can anyone comment on common ages at harvest or typical sizes at different ages?

Hi All,

I am computer illiterate but have the pictures downloaded to my computer. If I can get them to transfer to e-mail I will send to someone to post. I am still trying to recoop from the flights, lost luggage etc. This hunt was so tough physically that it has just drained my whole body and I am mentally exhausted as well.
I pulled a calf muscle and have a horrindus saddle sore from all the rideing. I can just look at a picture of those saddles and my Butt aches. I had a fantastic horse and we went places where no man or beast should go but you do what has to be done!!!

505 gibbs,

I booked with Harv Hollek and the outfitters were Adillet Uuluckman and his father. their company has a Kyrgyze name but the nearest thing to english is Rocky Mountain Outfitters.
Do not try this hunt unless you are in top shape and an experienced horseman. It will eat your lunch if you're not.

We had to gut the Ibex and trim off all excess weight in order to get him out of those God awful cliffs. After 7 days the men and horses were all in. My camera was in my pack way below so no pictures until we got down.

Andy
you are booked the hunt with Mr.Hollek, because you do not have Adilet trusted. Adilet wrote three times email, but no answer get. Adilet was very sourly even, but i spoke with Adilet and says, that is normally. I know, that you want hunt in souther part of Naryn, but it was not possible.

This is new area.
This area were are you hunted -"Extrem-Tours".
And you know that we are partenrs and friends with Adilet.
Adilet has two hunting areas in Naryn for marco polo too , but this this another hunting compani.

That is awesome, I am simply green with envy! Ibex are probably my most wished for trophy and yours is positively fantastic. What do you say Profyhunter, can you put me within a couple hundred yards of one? Okay, back to drooling! Joe

Brett,
regarding annual horn growth and not just averaging this goat...
12.5cm/5" per year, increasing then decreasing slightly over time.
But that is of course an average and there are good years and bad years as well as good areas and bad areas.
The Kyrgyz count the knobs on the front of the horn, 2 per year. This is close but less accurate than counting the rings.

Without a doubt that is a great Ibex; But a poor hunting tale.
So, you forgot your camera.
So, you hunt on pijamas.
So, only road side photos.
So, you and your guides trim the ibex weight.
Maybe those are the reasons way the Ibex looks "DEAD" to me¡¡¡
Sorry.

Ketchutti,

If you can't tell Fleece hunting pants from Pajamas then that says volumes right there. My camera was in my backpack on the side of the mountain and I took the pictures when we got down off the peaks. Do you see any road in the pictures. You are entittled to your opinion but it doesn't make it correct. Have a nice day.

I am rested up a bit now so will give an account of my hunt.

I arrived in bishkek through moscow and it was a grueling flight with 2 eight hour layovers, one in New York and the other in Moscow. I met Adillet in the Airport in Bishkek and he wisked me through the process of visa and gun permitt.
Since the Presidential elections were that week they shuttled me out of Bishkek that morning.
I was supposed to go to the Naryn area but a huge snow had even the main roads blocked. My hunt had been changed to the area close to Bishkek. There were 4 Danish hunters there so I waited until they were finished and then moved to the high camp. The mountains were beautiful
at the high camp and the guides and horses were top notch. I can't say much for the Saddles but I guessv they were better than bareback. We had fog a couple days and rain mixed with snow one day. I really enjoyed the hunting from horseback as it was similar to our Elk hunts in Colorado. The horses can only take you to the tough part so there was lots of rough climbing to get to the peaks where the Ibex were. I took Diamox but still had a bit of trouble breathing the first two days, but if you want a good animal you just do what you haft to. We hunted hard and I can say this was one of the 2 most physical hunts I have been on. After miles and miles of rideing I developed a raw sore on my tailbone. It was very uncomfortable but not something that stopped the hunt. Finally on the 6th day ASlexander found the big Ibex right on dark and told me he was where we could get to him the next morning. We left at 4 AM and finally got a shot at about 200 yards after aq hellish hand over hand climb. It was so tough I almost gave up but Alexander encouraged and helped me to get in position. After a shot through the chest a final one to the neck anchored him for good. It was worse coming down than going up and somewhere in the climb I pulled a calf muscle but it all worked out in the end. As you can see in the pictures I am all in. That's as close as I have come to giving up on a hunt. I am glad I experienced this hunt but would not try it again at my age.

Hawkeye,

Congratulations! That's a beautiful Ibex. That's quite rugged country. it looks like you really need to be in good shape to hunt there.

UPDATE,
I had planned on bringing back my horns and cape as extra baggage. Had all the paperwork and had a licensed receiving agent in central Missouri to receive it but couldn't get a vet
to sign a form so had to leave it.

My trophy is ready to be shipped to Fauna and Flora for clearing to Missouri. I am anxious to get it to my Taxidermist.

That's too bad. How many days did you have in Bishkek before you returned? I thought it was just a matter of a couple hundred extra bucks if you need a vet certificate on short notice.

Sheephunterab,

I was in Bishkek on Sat. and flew out on Sunday at 6:30 AM. The problem was it was a 4 day week-end holliday and everyone was out of their office. I shot my Ibex only 48 hours before so the skull wasn't boiled and the cape wasn't dry either. I hope the cape is in good shape when I get it back. It is a thick dark cape.

Congratulations on a fabulous trophy!
The horns and the dark cape are certainly first-class.
Ibex are some of the finest mountain game on the planet and you should be very proud of your success.

Zeke,
Thank you very much. Ibex are my favorite animal to hunt. I prefer them over Sheep any day. I saw a doctors collection of mountain animals and I was much more impressed with his big Mid-Asian Ibex than his Marco Polo Sheep. The Ibex are so Rugged and rough looking!!!
I am so fortunate to have taken this Ibex because I shot him on the 7th day and was only supposed to hunt 6 days. I am planning another hunt for maybe Gobi or Persian or Sind. We have a Congressman from my home state that has taken all the Ibex with a pistol. If my pocketbook was deep enough I would go for the World Slam of Ibex but a half dozen quality ones is all my finances will stand.

Good Hunting,
Hawkeye

I love the Ibex and wish I could hunt them even more. I would never go so far as to say I liked them more or less than mountain sheep. I have taken the time, money and pain to hunt sheep more regularly than ibex.

There's just something about hunting all wild mountain animals that has appealed to me for decades. On this we also agree, I'm sure.

Congratulations again on such a fine, hard won, trophy!
Respectfully, Zeke

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

There are always a few that are envious of someone that takes a trophy of this caliber.
I have dealt with this from a local person as well and some people will have something negative to say regardless of what you do. I had a fantastic hunt, enjoyed seeing a new country, took a fantastic trophy, and I Thank all of you that have shared this experience with me. I could give a shit less about what some asshole posts.

I heard a lot of stories about "hunters" who drink too much wodka and cannot take trophy. But kind kirghiz outfitters always help them for some extra dollars. Don't be so mad, anyway you will have nice trophy... some time Big Grin
