Roman BGH,

I have never taken a drink on any hunt, except to toast the kill. I did get a very upset stomach while in Kyrgyzstan. I can't see how you can decide that I bought my trophy because I didn't have a camera on top of the mountain.
Brett is right you are entitled to your opinion but when it slanders me then I have a right to speak my opinion. I have decided that due to people like you I will not post here ever again.

That is not at all what I'm saying. Weather they are or aren't entitled to their opinion I'm appalled at their unprovoked rude behavior. Roman BGH and Kechutti should be ashamed of themselves and should appologize........if they have that much cuth....... Roll Eyes

Ok. I apologize if I was wrong. Maybe there is some misunderstanding because of my poor English. But your story looks like trophy taken by guide.

I want to ask all who post about "idiots". Did any of you hunt ibex? No camera on mountain. Even mobile phone. Everybody including local people forgot cameras and phones. They cut legs to loose weight but left meat. Hunter changed clothes before make pictures with hard trophy.

Do you believe all that? Think better who is real idiot!

RBGH,

You are the Idiot!!! No one changed clothes, there was no meat left on the Mountain and no one wanted a picture with a cell phone. No one was drunk and nothing was thought of but getting the trophy back to camp. So crawl back into your Vodka bottle and quit mouthing about something you know nothing about, or show us pictures of your Ibex and how they should be taken.

You did not change clothes, so you climbed on those pants? Lie. They left meat on ibex! But cut legs. Are they insane? You prefer no picture than picture from phone?

I will show you my 2 ibex and Marco Polo, taken in Kyrgyz as soon as I return to Moscow next week. My ibex from Altay you can see in "European big game hunting" on this forum.

Hawkeye: Crap does happen. Don't know the particulars of your experience but, I had my camera freeze up on a Marco Polo Hunt as it was way cold! The condensation from my sweaty body penetrated my camera and the lens froze each time I exposed it to take a picture. No matter how I covered, cussed, you have it, the damn shutter wouldn't work. Talk about disappointed. The only photo's I got were back at camp when the camera dried completely out next to the fire. Anyway, my guides didn't have a camera and I don't carry a cell phone when I hunt! No field shot, just me, the cape and the horns. Needless to say I carry a spare camera and make sure they are both zipped in a baggy from now on. Be proud of your trophy, they are hard fought critters. The matter is between you and God, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Hawkeye, that is a BEAUTIFUL Ibex. I've admired them for many years, but don't know if I'll ever make the trip.

On the camera comment...Years ago a friend of mine drew a Montana moose tag. I had killed one the year before and I told him I would help him on his hunt.

Before daylight on opening morning, we were riding my horses from camp to the area we wanted to hunt, and we realized that neither one of us had brought a camera. An hour later, Larry shot what was at that time, the 4th largest B&C moose ever killed in Montana. We didn't get any kill site pictures of that moose. Mad

I have been on many other hunts where I didn't take any pictures, or like on one hunt that I snapped a bunch of pictures and later found out that the camera didn't have any film in it. Just looking around my trophy room, I don't have kill site pictures of my two best Mule deer, my best Whitetail, or my second best Elk. But I still have the memories.

Congrats again on a great Ibex.

Thanks Relbat and buffybr,

I am anxiously waiting for my trophy to get here. I have lots of pictures taken with a 35mm but not on the last day of the hunt. Buffybr is right when he talks of the memories from the hunt. I can sit in my trophy room and remember all the details of every animal there, if it was a tough hunt, what the shot was like, and all the details. I try to tell non hunters that visit that it's not just shooting something but about making a good clean kill on a difficult shot, or making a running shot on a good animal.

Good Hunting,
Hawkeye

I'm relatively new as a poster on AR but I've been hovering around since 2008. I must say that the postings of 1 or 2 folks on this thread reminds me of the puffings and chest-pounding of a few guy on the MM site.

It only takes a small turd in the punch bowl to wreck the whole batch. I wish the moderators would nuke all the trashy comments.

Congrats again Hawkeye on a fine mountain hunt.

Thanks Zeke,

I have gotten several P.M's and e-mails that were super nice and I enjoy sharing hunt posts with other hunters. I have hosted people at my ranch from Australia,New Zealand,Kyrgyzstan,Pakistan,Ireland,Spain,Germany,Argentina, and Canada. These hunters are some of the finest people I have met. Mostly kind, considerate, and fine people in general. There are many here on AR that I consider to be this kind of person. I have been blessed beyond measure and am thankful for all my hunting friends.

Good Hunting,

My trophy is in New York today and should be shipped to my Taxidermist soon. I am anxious to see if the cape is in good condition. It has a really thick coat and should make a fantastic mount. What is a reasonable charge for insuring the trophy from New York to Missouri?

I received my invoice from Fauna and Flora today. My total for getting my trophy home is $365 from Bishkek to New York, $375 to clear customs and Fed/Ex. to Missouri, plus a minimum of $125 if I want insurance from NY to Missouri.
I figure a hunter can save roughly $400 by bringing trophies back as extra baggage but if your flight leaves on a week-end or Holliday you can't get a vet certificate so you have no choice.

I'd say that would be minimum. I paid $125 for the extra baggage charge to get both my ibex and marco polo home. The fellow we hunted with in Kyrg said getting vet certificates on a weekend was possible but it would cost an additional $200. There's not much there you can't get done on a weekend in Kyrg......lol

Glad to hear your trophy is finally in the home stretch. It's always worrying until it actually gets in your hands. My capes are now back from the tannery and they look great so just waiting for the mounts now.

Wow...This thread gives me goose bumps. Being of Russian descent and having lived in the US for most of my life I would not expect to be called a commie for mere disinclination to believe the improbable. Yet, somehow, with a fine crowd gathered here I wouldn’t be surprised if what follows in my post will warrant such treatment.
Allow me to state what’s known to me personally as a fact:

- Mountain hunts are extremely challenging for all participants.
- High output aerobic activity doesn’t go well with poor choice of equipment and clothing.
- Asking a guide to help with the trophy is a common practice among trophy hunters.
- Roman BGH is a well-known, well respected fair chase hunter with number of mountain hunts and trophies.

If you would like me to elaborate on any of the points, do not hesitate to ask. Otherwise, I can tell you that I find it perfectly reasonable, that Roman had high doubts as to who made the shot and took the trophy. Moreover, having hunted ibex successfully in that part of the world myself, I tend to agree with his observation.

Hawkeye, I am not trying to rain on your parade, it just doesn’t look like your parade. And if it is – more power to you. But if it isn’t, no matter how many times you will say that I am an idiot or a commie, you will know that it isn’t. And every time you look at your trophy, you will remember what it wasn’t.

As to the rest of the gents who are fast on the praise – please realize that there is not jealousy involved. These magnificent animals are tough trophies and seeing how they are belittled by fleece pants and out-of-shape body is what triggers the backlash from hunters who carry their own guns.

I hope you understand and reconsider. Also, it would pretty darn great if you had it in you to apologize to Roman for all the F-bombs, ethnic slurs and other unrelated verbal garbage. Especially, those of you that call for using manners on the Internet but don’t know how to spell the word.
